Can u skip the cutscenes or do they make u sit through all that shit? There was a FF game that made u sit through them all...10-15 mins of movie u don't care to see just to start playing again = Fail.

You can skip them, and i really dont feel like there is any problems with the camera.

Game looks unreal, and the shooting mechanics are basically a sound combination of classic MGS with the FP camera of the MGS remake for GC. I haven't seen any major camera issues yet, but have played through very, very little of the game. The environments are top-notch Kojima (I've always thought he's been a master of creating lush, immersing environments).

The camo system is also very cool, and I don't know if it's just me, but it really stands out as a HUGE accomplishment from a graphical perspective.

That being said, I have to agree with those of you saying that this is the most refined and polished Metal Gear yet, but for all the positive things that entails, it also means that there seem to be far more (albeit much better quality) cut scenes. This just doesn't mesh well with me anymore for some reason or another - maybe it's just that I don't have much time for games anymore and prefer play time as opposed to movie time.

I understand the 10/10 reviews - it's an incredibly well made game, and even with all the cinematics I'd still probably rate the game an 8. I just wish they could have made a game where the bulk of the story played out within the game engine as opposed to cut scenes.

This game owns. Period. And is THE #1 reason I paid $600+ for my PS3, and was worth waiting 3 years. Beat it in 12hours, but that was because I played it non-stop because I had to know what happened story-line wise, and I'm not going to ruin it for anyone of course.

I think true MGS fans will be satisfied with Kojimas latest and (supposed) last work of art.

I was not here. You did not see me here. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a grave to return to because DarkAngel is dead and must continue to be so.

I just made it to act 4 over the weekend, will probably finish this upcoming weekend... It's got its dull moments (the beginning part of act 3, and I think the aiming reticule moves too slow and there are some camera flaws), but the cutscenes are fantastic and I just love how the game ties all the MGS games together, especially the 3rd one.

Just got to act4 last night, and I am loving it. Not to give any spoilers, but it was a pleasant surprise to see where you make your return. Further, most of the stories get filled in nicely.

Camera and aiming is, I guess, as precise as can be for a console. IMO the previous incarnations of having an automatic camera angle were more consistent, as they encouraged specific angles. Obviously you can do it all now with manual controls. Further, the cut scenes are freaking LONG. All in all, I think I've had about a 3:1 ratio of cutscenes to gameplay so far.

No, it isn't. It's bad, period - and several third person games have done it far, far better.

It's nowhere near "as precise as can be for a console" - not by a long shot, and it's easily the worst aspect of gameplay in MGS4 (and in the MGS series in general).

I've been as critical, and maybe far more, than most when it comes to MGS - but I can acknowledge that this is a fantastically made game. That being said, the camera and aiming seem like they were an afterthought (but then again, gameplay has always taken a back seat to storytelling in MGS, so this is hardly surprising), and really could have been done profoundly better especially considering the way they render environments in this game (everything on screen has 3 dimensions - no flat textures).

I really don't see why you are saying the aiming and camera is an issue. You just say oh its bad and give no reasons. I have no problem going in and out from first person view to auto-aim to normal aim .Constantly moving the right control stick while crawling to look behind me and around corners isn't akward at all. And when you say gameplay takes a back seat to story in mgs you are simply being retarded. Mgs has it's own genre of gameplay no other game has done what it has.

You have got to be fucking kidding me. Do I tell you that because you like/don't like something, you have to give me a long winded justification for it (like, oh I don't know, when someone starts a thread and only says "masterful")?

I'll do you more of a courtesy than you did anyone else and give you one anyway: auto-aim works worse than it does in GTA4 and switching to manual is so labored and requires such a change in how you use both analog sticks that it might be the least intuitive combat system I have ever seen. Couple that with a slow camera that still obscures much of the screen in situations where full view is crucial, and you have one total shit camera system.

As far as gameplay goes, Metal Gear has NEVER, EVER been at the top of the espionage/sneaking games. Almost every single Splinter Cell released has far better controls and gameplay from the perspective of someone who actually wants control over their character. In MGS, the run/move mechanic, animation, and style have barely changed in ten years, and the limitation on how much of your environment you can interact with is utterly fucking ridiculous.

I tried to be nice and give credit where credit is due, but if you're going to jump on me for being the slightest bit critical, well then you're welcome to join LionsLair and the rest of the MD gimps inhabiting this forum on the list of complete douchebags who are in total denial and are incapable of dealing with the fact that someone doesn't like what they do.

c0r Summary: Take differing opinions like an adult or fuck off, chach.

Edit: And it still looks like Snake is holding in a serious dump every time he runs.
