lovely, I've been using it since 2.0 for production and DJing also.

Awesome, the only reason I said anything was to let you know I know the capabilities of the program. Also alot of people that say stuff about it are people who don't know how to use it, can't use it or are afraid of it.

I fucking hate this argument, it's horseshit. I've seen countless Ableton sets, the only time I've seen it be at a detriment to the night has been Sasha, but thats cos he's lazy, it's not Abletons. I've also seen Jeff Mills painfully try to still prove he can mix on 3 decks when it's blatantly obvious he can't. Ableton would help him, but like an old man he's stuck in his ways.
|
You can hate it or not but it’s the truth. I can sit and listen to an Ableton set and be cool with it if the music is good some times. But I would more impressed to see it done equipment. People use Ableton to mix tracks and not play live. It wasn’t meant for that; it was meant for production and playing live. If you’re not going to use it to its full capabilities then it’s a farce personally. You are completely right about Jeff Mills though.

Two Ableton sets I've seen that stand out in my mind as two of the best sets I've ever heard, are when I saw Carl Craig at fabric , and Andy Stott at last year’s Sonar festival. I can assure you the crowd absolutely loved it on both occasions.

Few and are between.

maybe, but thats your philosophy, not mine. I want people dancing, not staring at me "rocking equipment"
|
It has nothing to do with that. Yes people might be dancing but the person using it is sitting up there click and pointing having a program do all the work. I could teach my grandma to use Ableton in two hours; at least enough to get her to start putting tracks together.

so I should label it as an Ableton mix out of respect for people who don't mix on Ableton? give me a break
|
No. But you label it to let people know that you used no skill in phasing and beat matching. You have all the time in the word to sit in front of the program trying to see what works. When you play with decks or hardware you have to know what works or make it work.

I've been Ableton mixes on here for as long as I care to remember, I'm sure I labelled them at some point but no ones ever seemed to have cared before. And why should they if the musics good?
|
When your representing yourself as an artist or as a DJ it does matter. I really could care less if a mix is done in Ableton. I just hate it when someone has to ask to find out. At least you were honest. Ableton gives everyone the opportunity to be a DJ with little skill required. It saturates the market, the forums and the airwaves with people who don’t even know the basics in spinning. Some might say times have changed and there is no need to understand or be able to perform them but I’m not one of them.

Ha I wouldn't judge me entirely on this, I was fucking hammered
I get your point, and agree with you, but in the main I'm always trying to do something different with ableton, as I'm sure RJT, Bas, Clovis, Jay etc... can testify to, doesn't always work, but I'm never plodding along from one track to another, there's always something happening.
I very rarely use FX either.

Rock n’ Roll. I heard a bit of it on the train on the way home and you were doing a lot with the program from what I could tell. I have to take a few more listens in order to give a proper review.
And once again I don’t mean to get on you or anything. Music is Music and all that shit but I just wanted to give a reason for my comments. Everyone has different opinions and that’s all gravy, but I have given everyone I know some crap, including Rob on this same subject so please don’t take anything personal.

yet you've made some massive assumptions on how I've used it as if I'm the same as everyone else. Poor Show.
it's downloading, and shall try and give it a listen in the next few days. |
The only assumption I made was about how you used the program in once sentence. I contemplated taking it out because I know I have never heard any of your mixes but I didn’t. Because 97% of the time it’s true. Also I’m to lazy to read through what I wrote again so If I made some stupid point or something please disregard. Back to the mix!
