I don't know what I plan on being, which is the main reason I said that. People without any concrete occupational or financial goals don't often end up near the top of the economic heap.

Well, I have some things that I want, but they're mostly "negative" goals. Like not starving, not living without insurance, and so on.

As far as jobs go, my goals are things like not working with kids, not working with food or animals, working indoors, making enough to pay for my needs and a few wants (like Internet), and being able to sit rather than stand for the majority of the work day. It's mostly about the conditions of the job rather than the work itself.

I don't have a particular "dream job" that I want or even a "dream field," and I don't expect that I'll find a job that's particularly fulfilling or satisfying in an emotional sense. I just want something that can pay the bills without being too annoying or uncomfortable.

There is no set way to direct your life. Even someone who is say a doctor who has dedicated their life to that will still have a few career options in the back of their head that they might wish they had tried.

Also "top of the heap" is all relative, only really Warren Buffet is "top of the heap".

Sounds like you have at least a rough idea.

I came from a poorer background, we got spoiled, but on things that didn't always cost money, taken out lots, shown things that didn't have to cost a lot of money and living with my illness on a small amount of money per year, it's taught me even more fiscally. I know that when i do have money i'll be careful with it and not need to splash out all the time because i can live on much less.

On the other hand one kid was spoiled by his step dad, trying to buy his love. he was always a bit of a dickhead and got everything he asked for and more. 20k car for his 17th birthday, anything he craved and a big job in daddys company when he flunked his exams through a) being pretty thick and b) not trying at all. He might have so much money and think he's happy but he was always a bit lonely tbh, and whilst he got everything he had given on a plate, one day he'll probably wonder what would've happened if he hadn't been so lucky. probably when he's old, his kids turn out to be dicks too and he's old lonely and broken. or at least we can hope

There is a definite difference between someone who was spoiled and is living off their parents and someone who was spoiled but held their own and had/has a job and paying for everything themselves but know if something unfortunate happened they could ask mom and dad for help ( which they should always be there for you just in case anyway)

Being spoiled isn't such a rotten thing that non spoiled kids think it is. All it means is that they come from a better upbringing and had a few more opportunities in life..sometimes handed to you and sometimes just a stepping stone but they still had to work hard for it. Non spoiled kids are probably more down to earth and are harder working. It's not the child's fault what the parents give or don't give them. It's not like we ask what kind of situation to be born into.

I agree with Jaime. My kids will learn what is what in life and not have such an easy way into everything. I'm an only child so maybe I think differently.
