Ah Oakie bashing ... everyone's favourite pastime on here

I won't pretend that the guy is my musical cup of tea any more, he's long ago moved on from spinning trance, for whatever reason. But for fucks sake give the man some RESPECT. Anyone heard of a club called Spectrum in London, where back in 1988 Oakie spun a few records that him and Danny Rampling had just bought on their holiday at some unheard of island called Ibiza? Bear in mind that this was the '80s! - before Manchester, before Ministry of Sound and I'll bet before half of you guys on this board were out of nappies

He spun that fuckin amazing Goa trance EM as far back as '94 ... and his GC and Ibiza sets in '99 to my mind are still the finest uplifting trance sets in history, the dude has more of a claim to be considered one of the founders of modern trance than anyone else I can think of right now. Not 'house', and certainly not 'club music' in general, but trance yes!

Everyone who's busy slamming on the guy, why don't you tell us who YOU respect as the founders of trance? (And don't anybody say 'DJ Tiesto' or I'll crawl into my PC and strangle you myself )

Oakenfold is into so many things these days I don't know what to expect of him when I go see him live. I wouldn't be shocked if he even played some happy hardcore

where did you get an idea like that? What an arrogant uninformed statement... The origins of House music go all the way back to the 70s and 80s. I doubt Oakenfold was around back then. Read the book "A DJ Saved My Life" for a good history of DJing and electronic music (including the REAL origins of house music)

The Founders Of Trance

The founders of trance were certainly not British, they were mostly German, e.g. Oliver Lieb, Sven Vath, Matthias Hoffmann, Cosmic Baby etc.

Exactly.
These trancEaddicts constantly overlook Germany, one of the greatest countries when it comes to Dance/Trance music, and one from which the whole movement emerged.
