I go shopping in the States all the time, DEFINITELY go to the Somerset Collection (about 30-40 min outside of Detroit). Although I have never been there, I hear the Village of Rochester Hills is supposed to be nice. I don't remember if they're outlet stores or not, but it's an out door mall...so really nice in the summer time. The reason I've never been though is b/c I can't find it. Alas, I have found their website though, and perhaps I will check it out now!
I know Somerset is in a really nice area (Troy)...so there's lot of nice restaurants around there too if you want to make a day of it.
