Yeah, I got that feeling while playing through it that, although there was a solid quality to the game, the experience felt a little shallow. I'm not sure if I'm going to bother with sequels.

maybe because the combat system and controls were garbage!

why?

1. new expac WotLK
2. new markets (china etc) expanding
3. no sign of slowing down, 10 million subscribers strong!
4. solid MMORPGs have long lifespans, enduring even console generations. Look at Everquest, it's still being played and that game is not even half the beast that WoW is.

I'm just asking out of curiosity, but do you have any idea how popular the game still is? Having been available for now 11 years, AND having to experience a sequel being released, that's pretty fucking incredible.

I expect starcraft to still be around in 10 years, and I definitely expect world of warcraft to be around in 10 years. You don't just pull an incredibly atmospheric and acessable mmo out of a hat.

I think Wow has some longevity to it, it all depends on what other companies do to take away that market into something better. Everquest was also one of a kind at its beginning, which gave an unfair edge as no one was close to competing on their already massive level at release. Blizzard knew what they were doing and made MMO'ing that much more accesible, entertaining and enjoyable for all gamers.

I'm not so sure. The thing about both those games is that they're alive now because no game that has come out since has been worthy of replacing them. Starcraft is still selling massive ammounts of copies because no game like starcraft has ever been made since. The only people who can replace them are blizzard. So how long they keep going now will depend on how good blizzard's new series of projects is. If starcraft 2 has the same e-sport potential (or even higher?) than sc, then it will most likely take over the starcraft scene gradually over the next few years. D3 might have a similar effect on WoW, seeing as WoW took over a fair share of the D2 player base.

Agreed. I liked the game, but it was no KotOr 3. And the best thing about KotOr could be lost with an MMORPG. Getting to decide through choice which side you will take and seeing the galaxy change with your choices. Unless they make it so you don't have to work with others and can play like the old ones, count me out. I enjoyed the series, but refuse to play it as an MMO.

It also took a large amount of the war3tft custom playerbase. It fucking sucks, there are so many great custom maps for war3tft... and it'd be awesome to be in a decent clan, but people never play for long enough (except maybe dota).

why would you play warcraft when you could play forged alliance? the only thing that WC3 has over FA is system requirements.
