OK, so...
Diana D'Rouze has a techno/electro vibe to her sound, though some who saw her recently said she's all techno now, which makes opening for her extra fun for me. : )
She gained my respect a long time ago by being the first woman ever to play at Mayday.
For those who don't know, Wikipedia summarizes Mayday as:
"Mayday, like Love Parade, is one of the oldest and most reputed electronic music festivals in Germany, having its debut on 1991. Despite the name, Mayday festivals date oscillates between 30 April and December (these being called Winter Mayday). After 2000, the Winter Mayday started being played in Katowice, Poland and in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
Each Mayday has a theme composed by Members Of Mayday, DJs WestBam and Klaus Jankuhn. The popularity of those "anthems" (with a 2001 album named "Anthems of the Decade 1991-2001") is very high, some agree it already reached cult status. Live performances (now commonly including three areas) featured high profile names such as Moby, Aphex Twin, The Prodigy, Jeff Mills, Carl Cox, Paul Van Dyk or Dr. Motte."
Also, people will very much go see dj's just because they're Polish and just because they're female, especially the latter. It's a gift and curse most women in the industry I'm sure felt - unfortunate, but true. Why do you think all those Playboy and porn star DJ's get work? Don't get me wrong, some of them can pop some good beats, but some... err.. anyway...
As mentioned above, it shall be my birthday party, so I hope to see you kitty cats there. Above all, Diana is an artist I've looked up to for quite some time, and I feel absolutely honored to warm up for her. I'm very excited about my set for this show.
