I recently bought a Macbook for DJing, which is the first Mac I have used since my Apple II in the early 90's.
I have to say, my opinion is mixed.
The package is put together wonderfully, everything is very sexy, but at the same time incredibly wanky.
"Designed by Apple in California" - yet built by slave labour in China. Who really cares where something was designed?
My main problem with Apple is that they try so hard to sell a lifestyle and image rather than just a great product, though they do have some simple and clever ideas, such as the magnetic power cord and lid latch rather than mechanical catches.
I found the computer very easy to set up and use, and the graphics are worlds better than anything I've ever seen on a PC.
However!
I'm a competent computer user and not prone to fucking up my machine. I've always found that although Windows is slightly harder to use than Mac OS, it is very hard to fuck it up completely - Windows will nearly always warn you if you are doing something stupid.
In the first week of having OSX, I managed to fuck my computer completely by selecting "properties" on the hard drive and setting permissions to "read and write" for everything, simply because some of my files had become locked. There was no warning to tell me this was dangerous.
This caused the notebook to stop booting up and eventually wasted about 6 hours of my time in order to fix. Nothing like that has ever happened to me in my 15 odd years of using Windows.
I think both platforms have their upsides and downsides really. I prefer Windows because that's what I'm used to, but all said and done the two are probably pretty equal.
My next adventure is Linux, I tried to install that a few weeks ago on an old laptop and failed hard - computer not good enough I think.
I suspect I'll eventually find that Linux is better than both Windows and Mac.
