I didn't say that the deregulation that happened in the energy and banking sectors was good or bad. I just said that on a whole, as in generally, it is good. Do I think that there should be regulation? Of course. We can't have Standard Oil back and bullying and bankrupting (Although Wal-Mart already does) all the companies it wants to fuck over.

My bad..

Yes, there should a certain amount of freedom, just like in how government regulates society. We still have freedom of press, speech, etc. The financial sector should have that sort of freedom, but of course, with rules that prevent banks running amok. One thing I want is more regulation of oil futures contracts.

I want all our regulations scrapped and rewritten for a time that they are relevant and make them more future proof. That way we aren't treating things like the internet as if it is 1960s technology.

It's completely able

If he is allowed to flipflop on this, then he essentially could flipflop on absolutely every position he has campaigned on. Unlikely, yes, but in the end feasible. He can get away with it though, because he's Barack.

The way I see it is, Americans are obviously too stupid to elect people based on pragmatism, issues, integrity, honesty...etc. 8 years of Bush and Karl Rove sweeping up voters has proved that. Their vote buying is just different. They re-frame issues using things like "soft on terror", "cut and run", etc... I mean, look at this shit:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/10/23/p...ign/23bush.html

WOLVES ARE COMING TO ATTACK AMERICA FOR BEING WEAK! VOTE BUSH

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/...07/ai_n11480556

HES GONNA TAX AND SPEND US!!! OH GAWD! VOTE BUSH

How about Al Gore

http://archives.cnn.com/2000/ALLPOL...bush/index.html

He'll say anything in order to win, thats terrible! We should expect better. I would never do that. Dick Cheney doesn't lie. The insurgency is in its last throes. We'll be greeted as liberators.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/artic...L&type=election

Where is Bush & Cheney's coherent energy policy?

Basically, its time to take the fucking gloves off and win an election. I'll hold Obama to his promises WHEN HE IS IN OFFICE, which we have failed to do for the last 8 years.

The government should be attaching a contingency to any loan - if we're going to bail you out you sure as shit better start producing more fuel-efficient automobiles. If we do it all the time to Africans, why can't we bully Detroit too?

Meh, I just hate all the double standards that are rearing their heads this election. Maybe it is utterly impossible to adhere to fundamentals principles when it comes to politics, but I'm an optimist. And I will not supply a double standard for Barack under any circumstances, even if it is to beat some Bush agenda.

I also kinda have some derision for the term "flipflop" while we're at it. I think there's a clear line of distinction between flipflopping and gathering information, assessing your current position, and altering it due to the new information if you find out that your current position is the wrong position. I think this whole "McCain flipflopped on offshore oil drilling because years back he was against it but now he's for it" is utter bullshit. He gathered information and then changed his opinion thusly.

Flipflopping to me is saying one thing on one day, and then a couple days later saying another thing in an attempt to garner more votes. And if Barack switches his position on this, it's more likely he's going to be "flipflopping" rather than changing his opinion based on facts and information, though I could be wrong, who knows

In any case, barring that off-beat tangent right there, I'm not in favor of these double standards for Barack no matter what foe or agenda he may be up against. Practice what you preach, Barack.
