The thing is, when I got sober (for the most part) and stopped doing drugs (for the most part) I realized that I like EDM just as much. Cause lets be honest here... who does drugs EVERY time they listen to trance, house, minimal, electro, prog, whatever. You couldnt. I mean, I listen to house when I drive, im sober. I listen to minimal when I study, Im sober. I DJ at this bar in Syracuse and spin EDM, and im sober. Its not ALL about drugs. its just that drugs enhance the experience. Can you honestly say that jimi hendricks' music is only for when you are fucked up. or the beatles. or the doors?? I dont think so..

I seem to remember reading something about how PVD signed a contract banning glowsticks from his shows because they promote drug use, and he doesn't think you should have to be on drugs to enjoy his music. That greatly reduces the potential fan base, future and existing.

so basically, fuck that, yo. Its not about drugs, its about the LOVE maaaaaaaan.

when i stopped doing drugs i still listened, although much less frequently; however, you have to admit, most people's first (and many times fondest) experience with EDM is while on drugs.

mine was 1st day freshman year at college where these 3 shady chinese kids from queens were trying to sell me weed and were like, "yoo, download this song forbidden paradise by tiesto"

I was like, "who the fuck is tiesto?? I listen to rap, nigga"

but in all seriousness, I try and go out as much as possible now, if not more so while NOT doing drugs... because I have more money to play with. Who wouldve thought that I would have to stop dealing drugs to make money... guess that was the addict in me. Although I will say that EDM clicked for me as soon as I rolled, I finally realized why Robert Miles - Children was so ill.

i didn't know what E was when i got into EDM. So that's not the truth. And I rarely get chances to roll face like I used to. But I listen to trance each and every day, all day. In my car, my room, at work. I can't get enough of it. It moves me just the same. Its about everything all coming together. The beauty of the music, can't you hear it? Just listen. And then the hard hits. I love the euphoric trance. I got into the music with songs like The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia. That's a beautiful song. How about Ferry Corsten - Sublime (Thrillseekers Mix). Ok, so Steve does it for me. Lemon & Einar K have that beautiful sound too. And for my hard beats, i want a nice Cosmic Gate-esque track. How about Tiesto - Everything (Cosmic Gate Remix). That's the track right there. But I listened to EDM years before I knew anything about drugs. Given they do make it all so much more amazing, it immerses you into this blissful sense of being.

EDM may be linked to drugs, but that's not what its about. It is indeed about the love. It's all about the love.

an example of the exception to the norm does not disprove the norm.

I know many people that have the same relationship with the music that I do. And I wasn't talking anything about the norm. I was just saying that at the core, its about more than just drugs. nobody started making edm as a compliment to drugs. nobody found an e pill and then invented trance music.

So in response to this drug talk. this summer i saw tiesto, armin, yoji and scott project, hernan cattano, and even the most cracked out mindcontrole WITHOUT taking drugs INCLUDING alcohol. While seeing them sober, I danced harder, photoned harder, and the best part...actually remembered everything. Word up to the VZA...you do not need drugs to enjoy EDM. My first experience of going clubbing was at Pacha, i know what a surpirse, and I did not do drugs. The D in EDM doesn't stand from drugs...get it right.

And about the original reason for the thread. I grew up listening to rap, i am a white kid from the burbs...yea thats right, i was that kid. I used to download all the new mixtapes...i was deep into it. I heard edm for the first time (WITHOUT DRUGS) and was instantly hooked. Jay Z is saying the rap game is stale...and he is right. EDM is the future
