must've misunderstood the info i was told. but i'm still wondering about this passage from the US website.

A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen may not lose the citizenship of the country of birth.U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or require a person to choose one citizenship or another. Also, a person who is automatically granted another citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship. However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship

could someone clarify that bolded statement?

i think it means you have to choose to give up your US citizenship in order to lose it. a person could apply for foreign citizenship voluntarily without the intention of giving up US citizenship.

Purolator. Yech. UPS is the worst though. If they can't deliver to your house (who the hell is home during the day Mon-Fri?), they'll send it to a stupid depot, which around here is open 4:30-6:30pm ONLY on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Such a bitch to get something from them. JUST SEND IT TO MY NEAREST UPS STORE OH WAIT, THE UPS STORES DON'T EVEN USE UPS TO SHIP STUFF, USUALLY FRIGGIN CAN-PAR

UGH

It means that you have to seek out foreign citizenship that wasn't given to you naturally (birth, parents). So for example I was born with Canadian/American/British citizenship because of where I was born and the citizenships my parents have...I naturally have all three citizenships and didn't voluntarily ask to have them.

Now if I were to go apply for citizenship in say....Australia which I'm voluntarily seeking I would most likely lose my US citizenship.

ahh there we go. so i was told correctly.

i wasn't born in the US or canada. so that's why i could lose my US citizenship if i applied for one in canada.

i guess it all depends on your situation.

Hahah, yeah, I had something shipped to me via UPS and it was such a bitch to pick it up. The thing too is that they keep trying your house when no one is around 3 times, and then it goes to their fucking depot. I remember calling them and telling them, "I'm not going to be home, so can you jackasses just send it to depot right away?" "No no, we will try your house for a whole week and then it'll be transferred to the depot so that you will have to wait an extra week before you can get it."

nope...

Myself along with my sister, along with a dozen of our friends and relatives were not born in the US or Canada, and neither were our parents; and we all have dual citizenship.

You have to understand that in order to forfeit your US citizenship you have to apply “WITH THE INTENTION” of giving up your US citizenship.

As it concerns Canada, like I said, Canada and US have a very rare agreement which grants their citizens the right to dual nationality despite their own or their parents’ country of birth, so long as they are citizens of one of the two countries.

I suspect the reason you are misinformed is that American dual nationality laws outside of Canada, are very different and specific to the applicant country—those are specifically on a situation-situation basis.
