Do we really need to be putting IMO this and IMO that. We all know (or should do) that when people make statements on the internet it is only their opinion or they may mean it as a fact but could be wrong.

Point is, anyone reading posts in a forum should know that it you should never take what one person says as the truth - someone you know nothing about and have never met. Instead you read multiple posts and hope to see a general consensus towards a certain viewpoint. Or you do more research.

No need to litter threads with IMO IMO IMO. Internet nonsense

Re: Getting Started

1.Try buzz if you have 0 dollars to spend. It's very buggy and straight up FUGLY to look at, but hey it does james holden well. For a list of programs and vsts, look no farther than this thread because it's already been said.
2.yes, i used a demo of ejay to get started which im sure that everyone in the audio community is against having.
3.Nope
4.Patience, and letting go of your ego is key. If many people say your song sucks, listen to your song again. Your friends and family will try not to hurt your feelings and they'll say that you're song is awesome. Posting on various message boards is a good way to see how you're doing because people are hiding behind computers, and they have no attatchment to you. Also, remember you won't get good over night.

Also, be sure to READ! It's much faster than learning mixing, mastering, synth programming, and your sequencer through reading than trial and error, though you can probobly learn a lot through the latter if that's how you learn best.

As for buying a sound card and headphones, daniel kandi uses hi-fi headphones that are pretty cheap and he has NO MONITORS. Mixing can be done that way, or maybe he's a special case. I'd say spend your money on vsts, a sequencer, and synth hardware if you want.

As for FLStudio being for n00bs, just because it's newb friendly doesn't mean it's pro friendly. pleanty of producers, from underground bedroom dudes to superstar producers have made pro tracks on flstudio.

I disagree. I just switched to another sequencer because Renoise doesn't have proper plugin delay compensation. It does hinder the creative process, I don't want to be bothered to correct latency manually by putting a few milliseconds of delay on each channel other than the plugin with the initial delay. It's annoying! It takes quite some time to get all tracks sync again when there's only one channel with some milliseconds delay, you need to adjust the other 20 channels in order to get it all right again .

And on top of that I bought a new pc to improve my headroom in cpu power. It's annoying if when your music starts to stutter and you have to bounce everything. I do find that a problem. I just want to make music, not a lot of unnecesary bull when every project is nearly finished.

Your question was about what a new starter should have

A good chair! I have had too many numb butt cheeks not too.
Decent or Laptop if you wanna show your mates your new "ALL TIME TRANCE CLASSIC" lol
Headphones sennheiser hd25 are good (so you dont piss people off with a loud banging noise all day.
A beer fridge
An ashtray
a lamp

Optional extra a resident ho for when you flick from reason onto porn and get to frustrated to make music. GRRR now wheres my ho

But seriously

Reason has everything you need

Sequencer
compressor
Mastering tools
eq's
drum machine
sampler(s)
2 synths which are very capable
combinators which makes the synths even more capable when combined
effects again good when combined
ease of use
midi support

I started with reason. Now i have cubase and reason and a hardware synth and a midi.

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Yo m8ˇˇˇ

This is my opinion:

First of all, there is more involved that just software when you are getting into producing music, a lot of people would tell you, fruity loops is the way to go, in regards of starting to producing music, wich honestly i disagree, why?.
Let´s just keep it simple, at the end of the day, all the artist that get professional, must of them they all end up with mac and logic as their primary DAW, so that´s when you start to wonder why, and i think is simple..... because of stability issues.
Now, i am not saying Logic is the best of all, but sure enough it is proved that Apple computers are more stable, that Windows( cause trust me on this one, is REALLY frustrating when you are working on something you think is worth it, and all of the sudden the computer crashes), and besides Fruity Loops, Cubase, Reason, Pro Tools, and other DAW software are available for the OSX.
Another thought of mine, is that Vista, is a failure operating system, and i don´t see why people keep using a 10 years old operating system like XP.

So i´d recommend you, to do a deep research of what you really want, and how would you like it, so you get the better that suits you for the amount of money that you are willing to spend.

And have in mind, that no matter what suggestions people tell you, you are the only one that decides how are you going to work your way up.

Of course I do. Times change though
And not many plugins cause problems in FL. It's mainly the Spectrasonics plugins (Trilogy, Atmosphere) I believe.

No, they don't? Shitloads of producers don't use Logic. I'd actually go as far as saying more people use Ableton than Logic nowdays.

This is also wrong. See next point...

In a number of recent hacking competitions, OSX was hacked within an hour in all instances, using nothing but network attacks. XP and Vista could not be hacked purely from network attacks. If Vista is a failure, what does that make OSX?

maybe this is because you've used nothing but very simple plugins? any linear phase EQ or other complex plugin will have blatantly obvious latency.
