I must say I don't fully agree. The fact that you need good monitoring is correct, if not, the most important thing. However I don't fully agree on a treated room.
Treating your room is recommended, hell, if I had the money I'd do it. But this one is all about the ears. If you are using a untreated room for years now, and you use that same setup to listen to music, you'll know how pro music sounds in your untreated room. You ears are trained to that particulair space.
For instance, I use a untreated room for my producing, but I had a couple of engineers and producers saying my mixes are great! That is because my ears are trained to the room I work in.
But still, treating a room is very effective and adviseble, but if you're short on cash, it isn't completely necessary, it's luxury (IMO). |
Worst piece of an advice I heard.

Yeah, its not terrible advice, its really just a matter of how bad the room is, some rooms require very little treating, that's if shuffling furniture counts as treating... If the room is terrible though, it will need treating, but I'm not convinced theres that many truly awful rooms around...

I agree.
Clearly, Theran, you haven't had to deal with a bad room (or you don't know how much better a treated room can be).
Treating a room can be done very very cheap :/ |
Well thank you guys, I like you too ...
I have dealt with a bad room, still doing so. But as you might have read, I said it was advisable to treat the room, perhaps with curtains or a couch. As you also might have read, the ear adjusts to the room its in. If you're in a bad treated room, and you mix a track to one of the pro-tracks, it will probably sound good. I have a untreated room myself, and my mixing is pretty okay (thats what I think though ).
And I browsed to the 'studio-pictures' thread, and I must say, I haven't seen much rooms that are treated. Maybe we should ask them.
