the positivety of the album is somewhat humerous, because essentially all they have done is stolen their own ideas from the 80's to create this new album with no innovation. If Paul van Dyk made a similar masterpiece such as 'for an angel' but released now, it'd be slammed as 'get with the times.' This brand of rock, or 'heavy metal' is non existent anymore, and i think its only getting good press because it allows all the old fans to rekindle their fond memories of a band they once liked.

(ps. i was a metallica fan all the way up to re-load, but once the new bassist arrived, along with my changing musical tastes, that was enough for me.)

How does one steal one's own ideas? I'm not aware of any intellectual property law on the books that makes this possible.

I mean, I guess if you sold an exclusive license to your ideas and then started reselling them your own, but that's really more of a contract violation than copyright infringement or theft...

Metallica's been my favourite band for as long as I can remember. I never lost interest until St. Anger came out (unfortunately that is when I finally saw them in concert).

Needless to say I'm very happy to hear that this album is living up to the hype and that they've returned to their roots.

I will steal the album now and buy it when it's actually released. I own all their albums and their VHS box set - why stop now?

Loving the new album. Also loving the XM Mandatory Metallica station which they made because this album was coming/came out.
Thank you Metallica for bringing back the killer guitar solos after that disgusting excuse for an album St. Anger!!! Also no more of the all radio friendly 3-4 minute songs - they are proper 6-8 minute Metallica tunes!
One thing that pisses me off about the album though is the so-called "The Unforgiven III"...
WHAT THE F|_|CK is up with that song? I mean it IS a good song don't get me wrong, problem is it sounds nothing like "The Unforgiven" and "The Unforgiven II" which sounded very similar (and both have the backwards horn of unknown origin) but this one has no right to be named "The Unforgiven III" except for the lyrics talking about being forgiven and/or unforgiven a couple of times.

It could depend on who owned the intellectual property in the first place. If you're an employee and you have a great idea, your employer may own the idea. Doesn't have to be contracually either.

/tangent?

yea, bigtime! I love what they've done instrumentally but I can't believe how far gone Jame's voice is now. It's completely done. He sounds like the Marlboro man trying to sing.
