Agreed. The opening set was terrible. The sound was off in the room, the music was way to slow and loungy. It didn't set the stage for a party at all. Digweed had an uphill battle from the start.

digweed maintains his #1 spot on my favourite dj list. he should have a quarterly residency.

It was surprisingly not extremely packed, which made my night. Can't deal with shoulder to shoulder parties anymore.

Digweed's set was a fantastic blend of banging prog. He had a lot of big build-ups and sik drops. VERY BANGY!

His set in kool haus was alot more smooth and silky. I can't decide which set I liked better but I'm leaning moreso to the kool haus set.

I was also very impressed with the length he played... 1:30 - 5:30. I was only expecting 2-4. pleasently surprised.

The crew was perfect minus a few missing.... Jay and Lar's! Tsk Tsk!!!

TUNE!

So, my first outing to Toronto since Lawler & Dubfire on Canada Day. Was feeling like crap all day but the sound of Digweed was beckoning me like the siren's call. Not that I was driving anyways.

Forgot how much I hated Toronto traffic as Gardiner closed and 401 was rammed late afternoon. King st closed and some weird movie shoot going on causing more traffic delays and I was late for catching TFC game at a pub which annoyed me.

Got to the Guv at 11 and it was so empty. Was expecting to hear Mark O, and forgive me if I'm wrong but Chris Fortier played until Digweed got on. Man. BORING! Just repetitive, bland tunes. Few decent tunes but 2 hrs of same tunes. Oh well. At least I got to catch up with few people.

Digweed came on at 1:30 and other than first 3 awesomely good opening prog tunes, he laid it hard to pick up the energy. One of the first 3 was The Timewriter - Flicking Pages (Peter Horrevorts remix). I love the Timewriter productions and first time I've heard one of his tunes at a club. Very nice.

Anyways. First hour was a treat. Relentlessly harder as the hour went on, but such a brilliant combo of the prog that led into more techy prog in 2nd hour and then so on. Was expecting more mellow beginning considering he had a lot of time to play with, but I like it hard Programming and track selection was absolutely bang on. I giggled like a little girl at some points because I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Hour 3 was a bit bland but still good. Left around 5am and he was still delivering the goods.

Not that I've gone out much this year, and plus all the sets I've heard, this has to be THE set of the year for me so far. Everything was near perfect. Tunes. Programming. The fact that Guv was packed, but not to the point of sardine can. Just the right amount of crowd (can't help rude pushy people though) The sound during Fortier's set was annoying due to heavy bass and I could hear like rattling from the speakers but during Digweed's set, although bass was still slightly louder than I like, it was pretty damn good. The vibe was okay, though it was still pretty packed until I left around 5am.

For 15 bucks for 4hrs of Digweed... C'mon. How the hell did you people pass that up? lol

Overall: Fortier - 5/10. Digweed 9.5/10

PS: Jackie, Cribby, Mikey and Tara. I love you people and your crazy wacky sketch dancing

PPS: for those of you expressed surprise at my presence... you funny people

it wasnt a movie shoot.
The Score (the television sports channel) was having a street party. kardinal offishall was one of the artists performing.

Ok so my review is a very different tone than the rest.

Last night was my least favourite club night to date.

I arrived just after 12 and met up with a lovely group of people 'ALRIGHT, THIS IS GOING TO BE A SICK NIGHT, DIGWEED AND SOME WICKED FACES AROUND ME!!' I thought.

My excitement quickly disappeared... The sound in the beginning of the night was HORRIBLE!!!! The worst I have EVER heard in a club. There was no where on the dance floor with a decent sound... and Fortier... he was BORING!

So after awhile of failing to find a decent spot and failing at 'getting into it' I decided to venture to Acid Lounge, in hopes of seeing Barb (who I never saw )

This was my first time ever stepping foot into Acid Lounge and my first time every seeing YM. They wait was worth it... The two guys playing from YM were AWESOME! The vibe was incredible, the people were happy and smiling and having fun, everyone was cheering, music was amazing, and the sound was so clean compared to the nasty sound from the main floor speakers. I danced away there until I recieved a text 'digs' and knew it was time for the real fun to begin.

The second Digweed took over the booth (I will now quote Cribby) I got serious goosebumps. After the first few tracks you knew this was going to be one of the best sets you have EVER heard. Musically he was spot on. Constantly all I could think of was 'WOW'

However... I reconfirmed my hatered towards the Guvernment. I use to only go to the Guv, and I nearly always had a great time, however this past summer I broke away from the guv, and Viva had left many unpleasent feelings towards the venue. The crowd was HORRIBLE. Never have I experienced a night out where people were so rude, inconsiderate, and pushy... I had guys randomly grabbing my butt, people pushing so hard I nearly fell over, some some guy pushed so hard into me that my ribs are slightly bruised. People would push their way through and then just stop standing right in front of me... It was IMPOSSSIBLE to find space. Whenever you did, it was quickly taken over... And it stunk... so many times all I could smell was sweaty armpits, or whenever that stupid ice fog thing went off it smelt rancid. The air was hot and heavy (as always in a club) but when that stupid fog thing goes off it makes in next to impossible to breathe. And the lasers.... I love the guv lasers, during the right set. Digweeds set was dark, banging, at times twisted... I did not want BRIGHT lasers in my eyes. I felt the over use of lasers that night was not fitting to the set. I think I also forgot how sketchy and weird the crowd at Guv is. I totally forgot about the 50 year old asians and all the other messed up people crawling around... so seeing them last night was extremely disturbing and distracting for me.

/I hate Guv rant.

So I am very upset that an incredible set was ruined by the Guv elements. I left pretty early, 3:30... as I figured he would be done at 4. So I am rather upset that I missed out on 2 hours of his set.

On a high note it was great seeing everyone and you guys are what made the night possible. Being around a group of friendly faces makes dealing with the guv crowd slightly more possible. Im glad you all had a great time.

Digweeds set 10/10
Fortiers set blahhhh (the little big I heard)
YM 9/10 (the little bit I heard)

Oh and I also hated the booth. I think the lights on the front of the booth is a stupid idea. It does looks sort of cool, but it is next to impossible to see the dj or take photos of the dj.

Oh and the group of shirtless guys dancing on the platform... HAHAHAHAHAHA

DIGWEEEEEEEED!!!!!! <3
