Truth be told, my comments shouldn't have been as directed at you as I made them. I just expected it to apply to you more since I see you always bag on consoles and sing praises of a PC.

And it is just an opinion on consoles and their controllers sucking for RTS games - but you would be hard pressed to find anyone that has a different opinion. That being said, this game is not just played with a controller. Certainly you are not typing out entire commands on a PC, but you do still have to select your units and then give them an order. Hot keys make that easier on a keyboard for sure, but simply saying what you want to do is not that hard either. Additionally, if this game is like any of the other battle oriented RTS's you can adjust your units behavior to either hold fire, return fire, or fire at will. Ground Control did that and that was 8 years ago.

I guess where I really take issue is with the assumption that it sucks because it will be on a console and that it is dumbed down. I have enjoyed the really deep RTS's in the past, but for the most part they just take up time and I get bored with base building. I want the action of a battle - and that is what the Ground Control series has done, what World in Conflict has done (which is coming to consoles as well - with voice recognition), and what Endwar will do. If you are looking for the depth of an RPG, base building, and resource gathering in an RTS then this game clearly isn't for you. However, if you looking for a fast paced, force on force, shoot and scoot battle oriented RTS then I think this hits the mark.

I have not played FA. It sounds wicked. I just stopped trying to keep my PC up to date with all of the system requirements years ago.

Really? So you can do everyting with just one click? You don't have to find the unit, then select the unit, and then find its objective, then give it an order?

Just "a-click" is all you have to do? That sounds like a really fun game.

Supposedly, that should be as easy as saying:

"Calling all tanks (or whatever); move to alpha"

All of your tanks will move to your waypoint and engage targets along the way (assuming you have thier posture set to fire at will).

1-a-click

Point is, in the time it takes you to say "unit one move there and attack", in a game like starcraft, I can;

-move three groups of units into tactical positions
-select base buildings and order production on 24 new units
-position group 3(slow) to attack a target
-move groups 1 and 2 (fast) into flanking positions on two fronts
-set rally points so reinforcements join groups 123 at location when finished
-order group 3 (slow) to move in
-order group 1, 2 (fast) to attack and soak up damage on two distraction fronts, allowing group 3 to move to their destination
-order group 3 to start attacking

Someone who's not too good at the game would have accomplished pretty much the equivalent of "unit one move there and attack". The difference is that one system allows room for skill differentiation, the other is shallow and puts an extremely restrictive cap on unit control and by extension, strategy.

Color me impressed. You are the master of the hot key. Very authentic to true battlefield tactics as well. Have you seen Patreous's hot key list? Its sick! He clears insurgents out of villages with just 3sdclick - he doesn't issue a verbal order at all!

Since when is realism an issue? It's a strategy game, not a simulation.

Dude, seriously, as I was getting at when I asked if you liked World in Conflict, we look for different things in a RTS. I like war games with an emphasis on the battlefield tactics and a sense of realism and not on how l33t you are with your hot keys, how fast you can gather resources, and how great you can build your bases.

Base building and resource gathering bores me. I want to be immersed in force on force battles. I think barking orders into a mic will add a new level to immersion into a video game. I also find the technology quite innovative.

You can poopoo it as the shittiest (or second) RTS of all time all you want, I simply will add no weight to your opinion as you obviously are into something different than I.

Nothing wrong with having different preferences, but don't pretend that this game has any kind of depth when the design philosophy and control scheme impose severely restrictive limits.
