oh no, that's fine. i just wasn't sure, since the two get constantly mixed up.

he was from the beginning in a league of his own unattainable by anyone else. although i must admit the quality of his output decreased sharply after abridging his moniker to "imminent". but hey, that's what destroying your equipment will ultimately get you. shoudn't come as a surprise.

So in conclusion, in your own words, how would you describe power electronics, and how would you describe rhythmic noise?
Oh, and I just got myself all of Imminent Starvation's albums, got to check him out.
So far I've got most of the stuff by Asche, Converter, Iszoloscope, Punch Inc., Somatic Responses and Synapscape. And a good deal of Brighter Death Now's releases.

Are Noisex and Download considered "Power Noise"? I think so but i never really liked that sound. I liked the old stuff by Gridlock though (the ones that had rhythm and melody) though and i'm gonna def. check Imminent Starvation.
Anybody else here liking EBM? I like 80s stuff like Cabaret Voltaire (first EBM project ever?), Front-242 and Clock DVA but i'm not very excited about 90s and 00s stuff like Evil's Toy, Funker Vogt, Kovenant, Wumpscut, Front-Line Assembly (they are EBM right?),Haujobb etc. Anybody having some mint EBM recommendations?

i think rhythmic noise is rather self-explanatory. it is rhythm-driven noisy music that oftentimes incorporates a melody and that you can actually dance to (maschinenfest anyone?).
it thus contrasts very vividly with power electronics that *rarely* exhibits so much as even a trace of a rhythm. i'll cheat and give you the description from wikipedia, which i think is pretty accurate:
quote:
It largely consists of screeching waves of feedback, analogue synthesizers making sub-bass pulses or high frequency squealing sounds, and screamed, distorted, often hateful and offensive lyrics. Deeply atonal, there are no conventional melodies or rhythms in power electronics.
i should also add that it is often politically-themed. both the extreme right and extreme left utilize power electronics as a vehicle for spreading their propaganda. now, whether said themes are to be taken seriously or as a mere joke is a whole different matter, which i am not going to go into.

i fear the tracks featured in this thread fail to adequately demonstrate the potential of the genre in its entirety. i'm therefore supplying some more below:

you bet they are. you see, behind noisex is... raoul roucka who i was talking about earlier in this thread. never liked any of his productions either.
as for download... no, i wouldn't personally label them that.

Yea I mean these examples you just posted actually have a coherent beat progression and structure. The other stuff was, well, just noise.

Why do people always associate EBM with noise? Maybe because they both have an industrial edge?
Anyway, try with Icon Of Coil and Combichrist.
So, Noisician, where did you come from? I haven't seen you around TA until now.

Would Hellfish & Producer come under this Power Noise genre, or is it just hardcore techno?
