I chose mine based on how much they mean to me, not how much anyone else thinks they're worth.

no, you are not. If someone write their name on the sleeve, the record is still playable. The only thing that are being ruined is the visual apperence of the record, and in the end, arent you paying for the music?

I don't know about you, but if I'm buying vinyl, I'm paying for the artwork/physical package as well. If I wanted 'just music', I'd get an mp3.

No, I want the whole package.

I also want my records to be in mint condition when I buy them, that's why I very rarely buy used records either.

offcourse you do, so do i. But a signature of the artist on a vinyl doesnt really damage the physical package imo. A cd is a different story. Okay, rant over

These are nothing special, tbh (unless you talk about emotional prizing). One might have paid quite a lot for it, and although the market record is going down lately, these arent worth that much, nor can be called 'rare';

Some of mine which are (emtionally and fiscally (almost)) priceless;
Nina Simone - Sinnerman (a shame it got re-released recently on 2 new promo's - makes it less special)
Joris Voorn - Future History 3xLP (without a doubt one of the best techno-producers lately)
Nathan Fake - Outhouse (not really special, but still quite hard to get in a decent condition)

My list is my most prized vinyl based on musical content rather than value / rarity.

As for Northern exposure x4 vinyl. Even that isn't too hard to get. Available on ebay / discogs for about £40 - £50. Some idoits are asking for £200 etc for it though.

Give it a few years though and it might be worth a packet as I think eventually it will satify the two requirements of being valuable: 1. Rare. 2. Sought after

Indeed. I was talking about financial value, rather then emotional value , because of the topic title. Some idiots overprice records immensely, especially on discogs.
However, this is the time to buy records i think. I remember that e.g. Kamaya Painters' Wasteland was sold on eBay for 121 euro's some 3 or 4 years ago. In that period, people paid big bucks for all sorts of records, especially trance etc, no matter if it was hard 2 get. Nowadays, u can easily grab a bargain every week for almost ANY 'rare' record (rare is of course hard to define).
Although all time classics seem to score selling prices regardless of the 'market'.

True. I'm still after Kamaya Painters - Far from over at a decent price. I'd even accept the pressing on data but still stupid prices last time I looked. What really pisses me off though is a mate gave me a copy at uni when I didn't have any decks, I then gave it to a mate who lost it at one of many random parties we played at. Sometimes life.........hurts
