Would they act more responsibly and mature earlier on?

[Note: I am not talking about lowering the age of consent.]
They probably could not handle most of the world due to low cognition abilities. Plus they would not enjoy their youth (which is the worst thing you can take from a child)

Many kids in the world do this, work since they are very little, take care of their siblings. Its truely sad.

agree, but make them learn the value of a dollar young, and don't fucking spoil them.

want a car?
work

want expensive clothes?
work

want money to do whatever?
work

i don't care how much money people have, if they get a good work ethic as young people they tend to be good members of society instead of whiny fags who think the world owes them everything because they breathe.

No such thing as "spoiling kids without affecting their character," IMO.

maturity has to do with how we are raised, not the severity of laws.

bad idea, letting em go at 14 is basically saying sink or swim, for everyone that does go on to be succesful there would probably be alot more who fail & cause more problems.

Maturity is also the result of a teenager's experience throughout the outcome of different trials & tribulations. In other words, it's wise to place kids in many situations where they will be challenged, one way or another.

for me, a rigorous academic program with a strong athletic program will, in some way or another, shape their minds and turn them into champions. I think sports are an excellent way to teach kids the intrinsic value of competition & team work.

14 would be a bad time to let kids decide weather or not they want to drop out of school. Too many kids would not have yet grasped the concept of why school is important.

Problem is I see far too many parents that are either too strict or too easy and it creates serious problems.
-Overly strict parents mostly destroy a child capacity for making decisions for themselves because the child never has the chance to make their own mistake.
-Parents that are too easy going end up creating kids that do not have a fear of consequence and often act without thinking.

Those are just to general statements and ofcourse wont apply in every case.

It still sorta holds up. People nowadays have a lot more to think about than just "getting married, having kids, and owning a home." Life isn't so simple anymore.
