Rather, philosophy is more about equipping you with the cognitive tools you need to make sense of...things.

Part of the reason why I'm into it

Well, I mean - for most people philosophy is dumb. Hell, it's not just dumb - it's downright impractical because all it serves to do is make their lives harder by providing perspectives that conflict with their own.

For those of us who are "through the looking glass" (read: batshit insane), there's no denying these other viewpoints, so we agonize over them like retards and people make fun of us for it.

Taking up philosophy is extraordinarily dumb if you want the worldview handed to you by your parents or peers to remain secure.

It's like a number of other subjects in which people taking it out of obligation are unable to identify any practical applications within their own lives (mathematics is popular in this regard).

The best philosophy instructors will identify and address this issue early on by presenting the information in a way that's relevant to their own lives. They realize that most of the people in their undergraduate courses won't be mulling over epistemic matters in their personal and professional lives, so aside from teaching the essentials, they frame it all in a way that bears upon their practical necessities.

Even if you're not studying philosophy to its own end (which is most people), if you're in the business world, any reputable company is going to want sound and competent decision makers working for them, and I can't identify a subject more worthwhile in generating this type of person than philosophy.

Perhaps Suspicion didn't come across these teachers.

how many people who devote themselves to philosophy really live differently outside of the comfort of society?

i mean maybe people start wearing funny hats or vote for someone different, but in the end it's still a hat, and they are still voting.

I think philosophy is a wonderful complement to other subjects, but as an end in itself I certainly had issues with it, which is why I ditched it in favour of politics.
