What I want to know is; how did this compare to last years legendary set. Anyone?? I think only a small handful of people were there last year.
Yeah - strange indeed that so many who were there last year and knew firsthand how good it was elected not to go to this one. It continues to mystify me how some people choose their parties.
If I recall correctly (and I may not, this was over a year ago after all), last year was more melodic and proggy throughout the set. He spent quite a bit more time this year just banging it out. Also, there wasn't really a lot of funk in yesterday's set, even in the first half, but that only just occurred to me in hindsight... I didn't think about it at the time, and I think in both cases he was just giving the crowd what it seemed to want.
I wouldn't say this was better than last year's, but I wouldn't say that it fell short either, it was just different. I also think that part of the reason he didn't start off as loungey this time was because he knew that everybody would already be wrecked by the time he got on.

That actually makes perfect sense!
And yea; last year's set was like a cross between his Extrema set and his Essential Mix. Was only there for 3 hours last night and it was very very bumpy. I wouldn't say pounding. Although there were a few harder tracks; it was still very booty-shaking, bumpy music.

I haven't seen Howells since like 2003 and I got there slightly after 9. I thought it was really interesting that no opener was playing and that there was no music whatsoever in the first 1 hour and a half. Gave me a chance to meet TAs properly without having to shout over any music. But it was good meeting El Kay Dee, Oreo er I mean Orko, Yohan, Stereo-Princess aka Margeret (I remembered lol), Trick Daddy aka PVD LOL!, Psyrel and a bunch of others.
Danny Howells played really amazing smooth prog house until about 1:15'sih where I felt there is where he slowed down a bit with some techy songs but I remember him bringing it back up later. I did leave at 3:30 AM. This was easily for me the best set I've heard all year. You could tell he was paying attention to programming the set properly, which even the best big name djs have problems with. I was impressed and to boot I could barely ID any songs. It was interesting to party with Danny Howells fans, instead of the usual club hooligans and skasians who don't even know who's playing.
See all of you again at the next jam.
