engineering and IT are the worst fields to get into, there's no money to make, you'll top out at 100k of today's money in your career.

montreal in terms of jobs is very low paying by canadian standards. You'll make more in any other city in Canada.

People posting jobs on Craigslist are cheap. They don't even want to pay to post the job to begin with. That should say a lot.

ratio of disposable income to owning costs is 36% in Montreal, 45% in Toronto and 80+% in Vancouver.

That is the % of your disposable income you spend toward a mortgage for a single family home.

et voila...

although disposable income can not be used as a term when it is to pay a mortgage

do you think salaries are 44% higher in vancouver tag?

disposable income means, money left in your pocket after all the taxes. (for those that don't know).

edit: usualy 25% and less of your disposable income should serve to pay housing, anything above and you start cutting elsewhere. So while the banks never talk about disposable income, they still implicitely calculate it (thats why they ask you how much heating, insurance, other payments, etc cost you a month).

It's true that salaries are still higher in Toronto in absolute terms, and that if you manage to find yourself a place to stay for cheap you win.

Salaries are lower here because taxes are higher on the employer's side here in Quebec. It's too complex to explain, but if say an employer have to spend 3 to 5k more per year per employee in Quebec, well he can't afford to offer the same salaries as an another employer who don't have to pay these.

CSST, Régime parentale, RRQ, Training tax and some others are the "culprit"

The difference beteween an ontarian and a quebecois is about 2500$ in disposable income a year favoring the ontarian on average. I could dig up the exact numbers though.

2500$ is a small price to pay to enjoy poutine, enjoy the habs and having to put up with plateau bozos

correct.. i'm considering making outfielders pay slightly greater fees for our presence considering the increase of popularity.. and since we are the plateau, we win at monopoly.. we own the poutine, the mount (yes, ours), mutek hq, ITHQ college, st laurent baby come on........fake dreads, our beloved 14 yr old crackheads (forgot to mention theyre pregnant) and last but not least a couple of clsc's always packed with a serious lineup seemingly used as an excuse by hobos to take advantage of the heating system in winter.
