There must have been 1000+ people in the mainstage at the time, and like 20 people actually realized he was playing. The crowd was indifferent, lol. Not many times that someone can play; the trance track of the year(lost), one of the best trance tracks ever (as the rush comes), and one of the most -unfortunately- popular tracks this year (going wrong), without getting a single reaction. Aww man, i feel bad. He surpassed my expectation music wise... it was just in the wrong venue.
Cant say much for Christopher Lawrence, i didnt get a chance to pay attention, although he did play one bomb ass electro-y trance track that caught my attention. Shy Brothers was great, best of the night for me. Mixing wise they were bad, im no dj and i dont even listen for these things, but i heard the rough patches. Showtek hurt me ears, but the crowd loved them. Hyperfunk is always good too.
In all it was a good night, and i learned vancouver loves its hardstyle.

a majority of BC TAers like trance and electro/house (I'd like to say there's even a few mau5addicts in here). They in no way represent the majority of Vancouver's EDM scene, in fact they represent a very small fraction. It used to be a lot bigger and more well represented, but the times have changed and many have moved on.
I wouldn't based my sole opinion of the 'vibe' or 'sound' of an entire city or area based on one show. I think the FNK group has a better representation of a large audience and figure (numbers) of the 'edm scene' in the Lower Mainland, and it's a larger eclection over there, with most of the DJs and fans polarized. You got house/dnb/electro/speed garage/breaks/percussion/minimal one on side, and techno/hard dance/hardstyle on the other. Sure there's still some trance, but a lot of it is generally of the harder variety, with the 'softer' side of that being stuff like Sander van Doorn, etc.
Most events are held in clubs following the former, while the latter goes at the bigger venues/events, put up generally by Solid and Twisted mostly. They have the money, because they continue to sell out events. Obviously they're doing something right if they're still in business, holding them at the PNE/MLC with all age events. You can argue it's a bunch of kids or older people hooped up on drugs or whatever, but that's an assumption and not a very accurate one. Hardstyle is loved, it sells. I don't love it, but then again I don't go to Twisted or Solid events either so I don't really have a right to complain about my experiences with their events. And since they continue to 'do things right' by selling out, they're the only ones that can afford to bring in the names you all want. Unfortunately for you, they ask the DJs to play a style or variety more befitting the locals and what the local audiences enjoy (which is usually asking DJs to play harder and faster sets for some) to keep them happy. A perfect example was the last Twisted event I went to. The DJ told me what he had been asked to do, and paid no nevermind and did his own thing. I was enthralled, but the dance floor emptied out and they all moved for a 2 hour bathroom break/cramming the house room. The second the next local got on, cranked it up 10-20bpm and killed the speakers with some ear splitting hardstyle the floor was instantly packed.
As long as it works, and they can still book the names, you all will either keep going or not. Obviously no promotional company is here to piss any of you off, but as long as they continue to make enough money to keep things going, they're not going to change a system that works just to accomdoate such a small community as what western TA has become. I'm not saying I personally love it, but I can understand it, and I hope some of you will continue to support the events so they can continue to book these big ticket guys because very few other people can, and most of those that can, have trouble selling out a building and packing it with us 20-30 TAs and making ends meet.
I'm not saying give up the hope, I'm not saying burn the establishment, but seriously, I never go to any events (cost, lazy, whatever) and even I knew the state of things (from past experiences, reviews here and other boards) just enough to know it's mostly hardstyle at these things
That's why I'm glad they are booking guys like Zero D (Jan 24) and Danny Taylor (Feb 26) still, who play something different (compared to what else is generally played by locals at venues/events around here), to give audiences a wider taste of the rainbow.

Thats absolutely true.
I had a conversation with DJ Shah on MSN the night before his show in Vancouver, and I figured maybe I should warn him & prepare him for a bit of disapointment with the scene. lOlz
Now, Im not bashing anyone or disrespecting the die-hard Hardstyle fans, OR the promoters because they do an amazing job booking these Artists.. but whoever that knows DJ Shahs style, would agree that a RAVE is not his place to play.. mainly because majority of the people who go to these shows, love Hardstyle music.
So, before I even started saying anything.. the first thing he says is; 'I know you people in Vancouver love Hardstyle, but Im going to stick to MY own style, I think to change your style for a specific Country,Crowd or Venue is very Unprofessional" .
I agree.. and I love that!
I also heard from a few people that he did actually stick to his Melodic "Balaeric" stuff, exept with a tiny bit of a higher bpm.. & that he had a great time overall, he didnt expect ANYONE to sing along to "Lost" or "GoinG Wrong" and that impressed him.. LOL
