IMO ableton has the easiest gui of any DAW, the other's are extremely cluttered by comparison and aren't as logically laid out.
Im not a pro but i think you should try Reaper and Learn it! But do what ever works for you! Im just trying to help you out! I have them all! im going to get protools 8 soon, it looks ok but i think REAPER and REASON is still KING and going to be for a long long time!

All i'm saying about ableton is i don't like the layout - my creativity is ok with it but i don't like the look that's all.

I'm going to download all that suggested and go from there.

Just wish I had money for a mac then I would go Pro Tools.

Man Cubase and Logic are virtually the same bloody thing. Cubase seems to handle VSTs better now anyway and has the advantage of having more VSTs available to it as well.

I don't get the blind love for Logic. It's because it's Mac isn't it?

Logic is far from a bad DAW. It's definitely one of the best but people jump on the Apple bandwagon far too often for all the wrong reasons.

To the OP - From my point of view, I would choose Cubase over Sonar. I didn't really like Sonar as the GUI is indeed terrible and it killed my workflow.

I've got Live 7 which is fantastic but it can run into some problems for post production. This is all personal though. I need something deeper once my ideas are set which is why I'm getting Cubase 4 to complement it. Best of both worlds.

it seems like your willing to spend a lot of money simply cus u dont like the 'look' of ableton...

im not one to tell you how to spend your money, but that, to me, doesn't seem like a good enough reason to spend a ton on a new daw

Ableton Live 7 gets my vote; I find it very easy and fun to use.

Having said that, a lot of other people seem to like Cubase and/or Logic--I have no experience with either DAW.

DAW................

ive been making tunes now for coming up to 6 years and im only starting to sound proffessional....the main reason for this.... i started using cusbase and my tunes sounded 10times better...dont go near ableton live it is not a pro daw.... people will probably argue with me but at the end of the day if you listen then is all that matters....

cusbase or logis are the benchmark that all these cowboy daws try to copy but they have features that do something faster... but faster is not better.... yes you may not use some of the features that cubase has for a few years but when u are at a level to dig deeper....its like ...how far do you want to go????...... it simply blows ableton away....

Rubbish. It's to do with improving your workflow because it suits you better, not because it's "better" in general. It's different for each person.

The midi has been horrible, until now it seems! PT8 has some nice features imo. But I´m not willing to spend that much money on their interfaces, and the m powered version seems crippled. Having to use my old m audio usb is not an option either.

I use Renoise (50E) one. Bought Cubase 4 recently (500E) and I haven't even touched it yet!

Even though Renoise is 10 times cheaper it still kicks butt! It's cheaper, has PDC, full fledged multi-core support and to me it seems to generate less cpu overhead as well.
