It pretty much always is... up to a limit (generally $2500 - $500 but I've seen some policies with higher limits)

there are a few options here depending on the details...

If he is a student away from home while studying then it is likely that he will have coverage for his contents under his parents' homeowners policy. In that event his parents' insurer would respond to his loss and then subrogate (fancy way of saying cross-claim) against the crazy bitch who started the fire.

If his friend were to pay him for the damaged equipment and then claim this under his own tenant's package as voluntary property damage it could go two ways.... if the nutty broad is listed as an insured on the policy then the claim would be denied (as it was an intentional act by an insured), if she is not listed but considered to be insured because she resides there then it would be denied for the same reason, if she is not considered an insured then it could be paid subject to the VTPPD limits (generally in the 2K range).

im all about the Trance...that would be so awesome if you could do that for me.

for everyone else talking about insurance policies, here is the kicker; the owner of the property is a dealer of sorts, rent is on a month to month with no signed papers. further up the hill is where the owner lived.
im not a student, i was working in carpentry and dangerous tree removal.
he didnt have content coverage in any way. the owner of the property didnt have insurance (i believe)

its a very tricky situation.

I actually had a claim where the insured's ex wife, who was still listed on the insurance policy but not living at the house, came into the house and lit herself on fire in the front hall. She burnt up pretty good but the only fire damage to the residence was where she collapsed to the ground. The biggest problem was the smoke and burnt flesh smell that was everywhere.

We recommended denying the claim because she was still a listed insured on the policy but the insurance company decided to pay for repairs because there was enough evidence to show that she no longer lived there. Personally, I think the insurance company decided to pay this claim as they were also a part of the Whitton lawsuit and this wasn't that long ago after that decision.

numark ttx1 (x2), pioneer cdj-800 (x2), allen and heath xone 32 mixer, serato with vinyl and cds, mackie active top treble ends (x2), mackie active lower ends (x2), and lots of records.

i saved the macbook pro (newest version) cause i wanted to dl more muzik yest for a show i was to be in tonight. lucky me i took it to work.
so much for that.

i went by the wreckage about 30mins ago.
there is insurance but only enough to cover half of damages.i talked to the owner of the property and he said to return in an hour. so 1300hrs my time; 1600hrs your time in toronto.

my buddy was there too, he looks as lost as i do. his gf is still in custody.
he has his wits about him tho.

physically i am fine, mentally its gonna take some time.
