I didn't say he was the first to write. I said he was the first canadian artist to do 3d style letters.

I know, and I remember it in a lot of places. The big boom in graffiti art came after the movie Beat Street came out in 1984 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086946/ . Taggers were shunned as usual, and a more and more graffiti artists developped a more elaborate style, truly creating real works of art that fascinated and stopped pedestrians in their tracks when suddenly such work appears overnight on the path of their daily commute.
The internet was barely around in when he made the claim and had no idea that people across Canada were doing the same. Graffiti art isn't something you saw in the newspapers because it wasn't something society wanted popularized. But it was there.
Watch Beat Street, it was a great movie if you can find it on rental, and was like a bible story for former b-boys like myself back in the day. |
dood. I respect your posts and you seem to know what you're talking about in general,..but please, give me an arist that was pushing a 3d style before Druo the Third.
3d letter styles is what this diabte seemed to stem from....and don't give me Dyske or Water, cause duro mentored both of those artists and they're more skilled, prolific and more internationaly renowed than duro himself.
If you can show me a piece fomr Canada that was dated before Duro, regarding a proper 3d letter style, then I'll shut my mouth.

We could go on and on it's tru, all good dude. In the 80s, we didn't have digital cameras, nor the cheap disposable cameras, so understandably hard to document by any graffiti artist, either here nor there in Montreal where I grew up. I didn't pay attention to the names, and at my age I didn't care. Breakdancing was in and this shit was cool.
