Super late review time!
Great way to end the year off with some variety. Had to flip flop between parties but was ecstatic that we ended up at the Sound Academy. It's been ages, and it's still a great venue to party in. We were one of the first ones in there, with the crowd being very sparse for the first few hours. The attendance picked up a bit after 1 am, but there was a significant amount of elbow room still. Vibe was lacking from most of the patrons, but FRC is where it's at. Those who jammed, jammed hard. Dino even. Spend most of my night in the main room, but each room had something to offer (They were all decorated pretty much the same.) Speaking of which... the decor was pretty cool. I always anticipate something eye catching. I found it interesting to see different types of crowds blending together. I don't usually venture to Destiny parties, but the combination of Industry, ADD, Destiny, etc. brought out everything. Oh, and, I noticed major changes to the sound system. Very crisp but not enough bass. No negativity all night made for some good times.
Tunes were solid all night. NuERa's opener was sweet! Would of loved to hear this kind of stuff later in the night. I'm sure he had a hard time trying to hold back enough Heard some really good dark prog, including one of his last tracks that made me drool. Damn you Andrew, I didn't bring my bib!
The other deejays after that were a bit refreshing to hear; some trance, ADD electro, etc. Derrick Carter was fun. Not the best I'd seen him, but memorable. Love the old school sound. In my prior partying years I had loathed Chicago House (bad experiences), but was totally digging it that night. Instead of frowning and having thoughts of being in an old retirement home ballroom, I was grooving and bopping to the saxy sounds. I LOVE the sax. lol .
Surprisingly didn't get my techno fix for a number of reasons; Just couldn't leave the main room to see D.A.V.E.
Been dying to check out Miss Honey Dijon for years, and finally managed to catch her. Bitch totally lived up to my expectations. Love her energy! Her sound is pretty eclectic, ranging from some chicago house to banging hard house. And let there be diva house! I miss hearing these Shaniqua-vocals... brought me back memories of Sonic. Did she really? She did! she dropped my favourite diva track:
Robin S Vs. Steve Angello & Laidback Luke - Show Me Love vs. Be
WHAT!! Julio's scarf came off and there was performance. Those who know, know what I'm talking about
She also dropped a couple of my favs from Sonic days...including
Haji & Emanuel - Take Me Away
I can totally see her destroying Footwork. Hmm..
All in all great night.
