z3ta can have as many features as it wants, but i really think its sounds like shit.

The oscilliators are poor, the filters are poor, the effects are poor.

IMO

This is what I did my first hour with Sylenth. =]
http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/5...t%20sylenth.mp3

Every synth is sylenth. The thing I noticed that I like is it actually seems to have it own sonic character thats not typical of software. Like it has personality for a synth if that makes sense, but not crappy typical SS personality.

I like sylenth 1 myself better than z3ta, because it uses almost no cpu resources while sounding reasonably good ( and it's made by someone from Holland ) I'm upgrading to a core i7 system soon, so my perception about these 2 vst's might change though.

A synth having more features just means its likely to be more versatile at creating a wider range of sounds. It doesn't mean in any way that the QUALITY of the sounds it produces will be better.

A Moog little phatty II has only two oscillators, one lowpass filter, and no FX like chorus, delay etc.

Does that make it a crap synth?

Supersaw sounds tend to sound very flangy and harsh on z3ta when the filter is open and I hate the user interface. However some pad sounds sound very warm and nice when the filter (lp) is not so open.

Sylenth1, well it offers many ready to use uh supersaw patches. Presets tends to have lot of effect and without effects it doesnt sound so good anymore. Also all those patches tend to have some phaser effect. But well its still very good synth for trance.

Also I mostly use quite basic sounds. I dont need that many modulation options or to do evolving strangely sequenced patches (that arent really usable for any kind of music at all).

But then again, audjoo helix is really awesome and rather complex tho. It really beats the crap out of z3ta+ and sylenth.

Its quite hard to understand the fuss about zeta but imho it was one of the first synths that could produce (that supersaw trance sound). At least some point when it was updated, lots of (trancy) presets and awful pre-programmed trance sequences were added causing people to start raving about it!

While we're on the topic, for those of you that hate the stock skin as much as do, here are some other others that you may want to check out:

One of these days, I'll finish my Nord-ique skin for Z3TA+ and post that there as well.

I heard absolutely no clipping at all before I rendered that.
Maybe your speakers are going?

z3ta has a lot of features, but the oscillators are weak and the filters don't sound great. z3ta is very old and has always been a quantity over quality synth, as it was competing in an access virus dominated era. conversely, people are now starting to appreciate the old analogues and more simple synths more. sylenth isn't as complex as z3ta but it definately has better filters etc.

My functionality/quality of sound chart:

Zeta: f=5, q=4
Sylenth1: f=4, q=5 (and very easy in use!, has the best interface)
Zebra-2: f=5, q=5
Helix: f=5, q=5
