As a huge fan of the MGS series, I've played every game religiously, even the Snake games from before the PS1 days. I've unlocked absolutely everything there is to be unlocked, in every MGS game of the last 15 years. I did buy the PS3 almost exclusively for this game, and I can wholeheartedly disagree with you that it was worth it. It was not. IMO, spending that amount of money for literally just over 7hrs of gameplay, plus an ass-tiring tirade of rambling movies and cutscenes just does not cut it. Those of us don't get Kojima? What is there to get? The melodrama is just carried too far in this game. There really are some outstanding political comments and theories, and the series does wrap up in a story that does not disappoint...and that could have been accomplished in half of the cutscenes, or better yet, keep all of the cutscenes, but include more gameplay.
Some parts of the game were just plain ridiculous. The final fight between Snake and Ocelot? Can anyone say 'anticlimactic' at BEST! Further, the dynamic of the gameplay did change, for the better, IMO. Far more realistic as far as sneaking around, so why not play on those strengths. Not a fucking tirade of sitting down to watch a cutscene of 45min, followed by a short gameplay stint of 15min, followed by another sitting of a cutscene lasting 1hr. The game was a huge disappointment to this most fanatical (or at least I thought) fans. If this is Kojimas' last, good riddance. This game pales far in comparison to the absolute genius that was MGS1.
