i actually think it would be smarter to have a dedicated PCI card that the TI goes into... no more USB/FW limitiations. plus those technologies are going to change again in 18mos.

What about the suckers who bought the original TI?
Im gonna be extremely pissed if they discontinue OS support for the TI. The only way they can redeem themselves is to make the Virus TI stable before releasing something new.

I agree. But they probably realised it's such a mess that they can't fix it. It's been about 4 years now. Better for them to move on and learn from the mistakes they made (from their point of view of course).

I disagree. The ti does too little and requires too little data bandwidth to warrant it's own connection interface. I think it's just a case of too tight deadlines. If they did more prototyping and had better software engineers this wouldn't have happened, i think

They'll probably continue to support it for a while, but you can probably kiss any new OS updates for old hardware goodbye. Their developers would most likely be concentrating on the new OS for the new hardware.

They may be trying to make a version of the software that's compatible with both versions, but that would entirely depend on how many changes needed to be made. Sometimes backward compatibility is simply not possible if too many things have changed.

I have to agree with Storyteller here as well. Adding a PCI interface would simply be another exercise in 1.0 development. Better to try and improve on the existing specs rather than try something else. I don't think the problems are so bad that they can't continue on the USB/FireWire route. Besides, I don't have any more room in my Mac for any PCI cards. The Mac Pro's only have 3 PCIe and 1 PCI-X slots and one of those is taken up by the video card. Add a PCI audio interface and a couple of UAD cards, and you're full up.

surely 3xUSB outputs isn't enough for you guys... especialy on a synth that can do 16 instances simo. it has more DSP power than it can output... that's just retarded.

Am I the only one one in the world who is perfectly satisfied with Virus Ti? It's not my only instrument so I don't need more voices, 3 digital outputs leaves me with one output per instrument most of the time, and it syncs using the Virus|Control perfectly! (has been since I got it in Jan 2007).

All these reasons and the fact that any future Virus releases would just be more of the same means any new instrument had better be a huge leap for me to upgrade. If it's just another B -> C transition, I'll stick with what I already have.

Agreed. I have plenty of other instruments, so I probably wouldn't need a ton of outputs. Even if it were my only instrument, its easy enough to just bounce things down to audio and keep going.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of this, this has happened plenty of times in the past when alot of stores went out of stock especially with the virus Ti. ( maybe they are waiting for a new batch to arrive from Germany? )

Other stores seems to have the Ti models in stock, so maybe it's a regional supply problem? :P ( zzound, sweetwater, etc ... are all US based? )

But we'll see on NAMM what's going to come

I don't care about voices either. To be honest, I wish they would lower the polyphony to get rid of some of the stability issues. I have to bounce anyways.

They're not out of stock, they're 'discontinued'. When an item is out of stock, you can still add it to your cart, purchase, and they'll ship it when it arrives. But for these, they're not even on the site anymore.

All of this is on the Sweetwater site (probably the most 'in the know' american supplier).

Exactly. I specifically asked about this when I talked to my rep at Sweetwater, and he said that the products were marked "discontinued". I'm pretty sure that my rep wouldn't have told me that in lieu of selling me a $3,000 synthesizer.

Its a good bet that any sites that still show them on their pages won't be getting any more, but still have some left on the shelves.
