otherwise i just go for whatever is cheapest. i rarely drink hard alcohol and if i do it's always mixed drinks, so i don't think it makes sense to splurge. i'd rather spend my hard-earned drinking money on tasty beers or wine.

I agree. They still market themselves as "the best tasting vodka in the world" and it's been 11 years since they won any significant awards, and have since been bought out. Best tasting vodkas that you can buy in the U.S. IMO: Jean Marc XO, Kauffman, Jewel of Russia Ultra, Hangar 1, Stoli Gold, Bong.... and maybe a couple others.

There are some from Russia that I wish I could find here that are amazing. Grey Goose, Absolut, Skyy, Ciroc... blech. Just good advertisting.

I like hanger 1 and jewel of russia a lot. I'd say they are definitely the best.

One of my favorite vodkas was this Polish potato vodka I bought at Trader Joe's.
