haha... good point. Here's an immediate example from yesterday... the people of Kenya have spoken!
| quote: | "This man is Jesus," shouted one man, spilling his Guinness as Barack Obama began his inaugural address. "When will he come to Kenya to save us?" If Barack Obama's spin doctors have been trying to lower expectations since his election victory, the message clearly has not reached the land of his father.
"Now he is president we will get food and jobs," said Ben Ochieng, as he danced to the traditional music that replaced the planned show. The Kenya National Theatre even revived its hit show Obama The Musical, which wowed sell-out audiences during the US election last year. It uses parallels with the Bible Story and Mr Obama's own struggles with racism and drugs — documented in his memoir Dreams From My Father - to portray the incoming President as a saviour for downtrodden peoples of the world.
"It is right that when people get power they look after their family, so we know that Obama will build lots of good things for us, like schools and roads and clinics," said George Opiyo as he left the theatre. |

I have heard Obama being referred to as a saint, as a man who is bringing the human race together, and as the greatest leader ever. Peoples expectations are too high and they will quickly learn that he is none of these things. People expect him to not only turn the US Economy around but the entire world economy around. When he has to start moving away from promises he made and when people start seeing he isn't the next jesus...um I mean Tiesto....then we will see what kind of leader he is. |
Okay, if you're saying he's going to "fail" at those things then you're probably correct. How can someone be "the greatest leader ever" when they haven't actually led yet? Some people are retarded.

words are words
monumental times but what can he truly deliver.
the USA/UK is run by various secret societies and the fact that the Federal Reserve which prints all their money is a PRIVATE bank run by the richest families in the US means that he is ultimately controlled by them if not run by them in the first place.
Don't be fooled...

That is al true, but failure is not inevitable. Things are dire, but we've survived and overcome many crisis in the past.
The people calling Obama jesus are just as stupid as those who called George Bush a clueless monkey.
Re, your original point, that the pretty speeches won't mean crap when he fails to deliver, you can't possibly know right now whether or not he will fail to deliver, (signs point to an excellent start judging by who he is surrounding himself with and early plans), and yeah, of course most people are fucking retarded and have ridiculous expectations, this is America after all, but that doesn't mean that intelligent people like myself and many others can't recognize the enormous potential of a man who is very fucking capable, very serious, and probably one of the finer presidential prospects we've had in years. Pretty speeches are where you start. Pretty speeches inspire people and motivate them, in dire times. Nothing George Bush has said in the last 4 years has done a thing for anyone, in reassurance, and in confidence, but everyone can get behind Obama because of that confidence that he inspires, and that is a good fucking place to start in the face of such disastrous situations.
There's no doubt in my mind that in 4 months the average Joe who was crying at the inauguration over Jesus is going to be like "wheres mah gad damn stimulus" and wondering why we don't live in a Utopia already. But the rest of us who actually have a brain will be able to more accurately measure his success, and parrying the insinuation that Obama is all talk and no substance is absurd at this point. He has demonstrated enormous substance to those in the know, and to people who follow politics and world affairs. The question is, is his ambition great enough to really implement the types of grandiose measures that are going to make a difference long after his term(s) end, and get the country back on track.
