Given the already existing overcrowding on the Yonge line, if theyr'e going to extend it they -need- the DRL. Not looking forward to the day that boarding the train southbound @ Sheppard is like boarding southbound @ Eglinton early in the morning.

I hope they built this. It will make my commute easier than it is now. It looks good on paper but the real test will be if its actually built. I'd be taking a detour and transferring three times instead of two.

Even if it does get built, by the time its up and running you'll probably no longer be working at the same place.

Yeah you're right I didn't even think of that, I'll probably be living in another city by that time anyways LOL.

it's quite possible that they could be digging up our bones by the time they start building this assuming they even approve and fund it..

So screw them, and let them use YRT/Go train instead?

I think what he's saying - before we do anything to further increase the ridership of the TTC, there needs to be things in place to be able to accommodate the increase in passengers. DRL first, expand into York second.

Not saying one or the other, just one then the other after.

You already have situations where at the transfer stations you have people needing to wait 2-3 trains before they can board one, this would just be increased horribly if they expanded the subway northward first without having plans in place to help better handle the capacity.

they have a plan to increase the capacity of the yonge line by 50%. this includes the new subway trains, ATU implementation, and the opening of the spadina subway. this is all going to be done around 2015.

however, the drl could divert even more people (40%) from the bottleneck at yonge/bloor. especially considering the time and money that is estimated in revamping yonge/bloor, the DRL seems more like a logical choice.

Because they had funding and help from the private sector.

Anyway, I'm all for any expansion to Toronto's woefully underdeveloped subway system. I agree that they also need a lot more rapid transit up north, but big projects like this always depend on priorities and political optics, and the DRL is essentially the low-hanging fruit.

ideally it would be awesome if they had a mirror image of it done but on the other side of Bloor, connecting Downsview and Finch
