in my 6-7 years on TA, i've seen some members starting from less than nothing and becoming resident djs and having success, so its totally possible.

But this guy doesn't wanna wait 6-7 years, he wants to be a resident dj now!

some came here without knowing a single a person and networking their way to the top... so even if you know 0 people at the start, there's always a way.
Here's a quick success story for you though: I remember 3-4 years ago, King Richard...he was 19 years old...spinning at Sofia's part time and studying at Mcgill...the kid was so talented that balroom hired him right away when they heard him spin at the restaurant one night. Even back bthen he was able to draw a small McGill crowd. 4 years later, tons of people only go to Balroom on St-Laurent because he is spinning there.
But trust me, he's got mad mixing skills, top notch track selection, he looks pretty good, interacts with the crowd, and even does his own mash ups and productions.
Richard was mixing in his basement countless hours every week so he became really really good....but he is also extremely talented..more than most DJs I know.
Richard is definitely one of the most talented DJ's in Montreal!
Une Poutine Matty pour emporter SVP!

There should be open decks nights somewhere in Montreal.. it would give a chance to bedroom DJs to show some skills.

would you go to an open decks night?
i don't know about you, but i wouldn't...if i'm spending money i better know it is worth it.
djs still dont understand...
skills dont matter anymore. anyone can beatmatch with a computer and no headphones, that wont help the owner pay the bills
skills are a required asset that pretty much everyone has... so theres not much to argue over skills
as with filling a club and keeping it full until 3, these are skills that are acquired with time and experience.
also remember, its not what you know, is who you know that will get you far in this game

-Get a good marketing team behind you. All the DJs that play a lot here are the ones that are strong on self promoting or have a team behind them.
-Get your foot in the door of a club anyway you can, I've seen busboys and and flyer boys work their way up to DJs numerous times. A few "top" DJs in Montreal have even boosted their careers by being the bookers and/or managers of clubs and just put themselves on like that. Shit buy your way into the club if you have too.
-Have a nice set of tits... or any other gimmick that wil attract attention. It works
Lastly Musical taste, mixing ability and talent are all fine and good but it's not going to get you anywhere until you get noticed by the right people. Oh a very few people will bother to listen to your demo unless they already know you and like your music.
