Yup, it definitely isn't.
Think of ambient. You know, that beatless fluffy kind of music. Now, imagine a micro-minimalist sort of ambient, and you're probably on the right track. Drone tunes are be based on a (series of) single note(s)/chord(s) being sustained for a long time (hence the name, "drone"). Tim Hecker and Stars of the Lid are nice examples of what I'm talking about. It's the perfect background music for weddings, funerals, libraries, and demolition derbies.
By the way, Jenny, listening to this kind of thing in a hospital gives you the impression that you're about to be abducted by aliens - for the love of God, don't even try!
