Criticism against Islam in general notwithstanding, where would a respectable couple like that be conditioned to believe this is acceptable behavior?
What would make a seemingly normal domesticated man think the only course of action is to behead his wife? Did he learn these beliefs in temple? Was he raised with them?
The public is going to have questions and the frustration usually comes from a lack of voluntary explanation to outsiders of Islam. |
Don't confuse culture with Islam. Islam is a "religion" (if one chooses to use that descriptor), ideological [or philosophical] perspective, way of being (or 'din') and / or mystic tradition. I say this is someone is is partly [and largely] from Arab descent (i.e. semitic), that the semitic culture, yes, Arabs and Jews, have always had their weird tribal outlook, ways and cultural complexes. This 'honor killing' nonsense is nothing but murder, and no where in any Islamic text will you find this as being "acceptable." The word in Arabic for sex out of wedlock is 'zina', which cover both fornication and adultery. Technically, an adulterer or fornicator, male or female, is supposed to be flogged a hundred times. But a charge or accusations like that must be supported, according to the Quran, by at least four [credible] witnesses.
These verses from Surah Al' Noor make it pretty clear:
| quote: | 024.002
The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.
024.003
Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.
024.004
And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations),- flog them with eighty stripes; and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors;-
024.005
Unless they repent thereafter and mend (their conduct); for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. |
Unless you're having an orgy or public sex, good luck finding four credible witnesses.
Note the added protection for women here btw.
| quote: | 024.006
And for those who launch a charge against their wives, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by Allah that they are solemnly telling the truth;
024.007
And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie.
024.008
But it would avert the punishment from the wife, if she bears witness four times (with an oath) By Allah, that (her husband) is telling a lie; |
Of course, the media and ignorant people will have you believe otherwise as Islam is a favorite target of contemporary bigotry and ignorance in the political and social climate we live in these days. You know, cuz we "hate women," which is what articles and media coverage like that will have you believe.[/quote]
There is nothing "Islamic" about "honor killing" and is nothing more than a backward semitic cultural practice.
From and Islamic perspective, not a backward cultural one, this man is clearly a murdered. And from a legal perspective, a criminal responsible for committing first degree murder. Don't let media bias and propaganda confuse you.
