Now that was an interesting list, tell you the truth, i didn't know any of those artists (lol) but i was pleasantly surprised by the fact that i didn't find the usual glitch-techno sound for each one of these releases ( i also have associated this specific sound with your dj-sets)but some "True" (thats how i like to call it) deep and techy stuff. I really liked Guillame and the Coutu Dumonts (now thats a name...) because they brought to mind that older deep n twisted Terry Francis/Jay Tripwire tech-house i used to love and dj back in 2002. "Hallelujah Yeah" was funky as fuck and "They Only Come Out At Night" was very deep and atmospheric, reminding of early Silicone Soul. The Mole was also a very interesting deep/tech house artist, some really nice tunes. "Silver Hord" also had a nice IDM-offbeat feel to it, "Mina's Theme" is a typically nice a-la Terry Lee Brown Jr. deep/tech-houser (but getting a bit more twisted) and so is Chris Carrier (although i saw that he has some variety to his tunes). Both the name and the deep/dubby/twisted style of Robert Dietz brough to mind David Duriez-another classic tech-house artist-and i really love that style in the dance-floor.

Truth to be told though, i personally can't see why any of those tracks have more longetivity than that trashy-tune of the thread-title. On the contrary, the dumb brainless punters could scream for more "afghanistan" and instantly forget about any of those tracks at the very moment they get mixed to the next one lol. Truth is, that style of music was never meant to have longetivity anyway, its pure dance-floor music, its not meant to stay as a piece of art. The fact that most of those tracks recycle older ideas doesn't help either. Everybody can learn about Mr. C and terry Francis (and Timewriter etc.)if he makes a google-search on deep and tech-house, the bad news is that nobody will ever remember anything about those modern artists in about 2-3 years time (probably much earlier)...probably even djs themselves since they could easily find similar substitutes. Despite that, this is pure dance-floor music and it can shake and control your body in all sorts of ways!

All I'm saying is that a lot of us here are so quick to judge any new stuff that comes out and that it just becomes this robotic response only taking our tastes into consideration. Yeah, the track is gimmicky, unimaginative, bland. But it's as bouncy as any prydz track out there and I would bet it would get a dancefloor going especially the ones I play at. This constant struggle against mediocrity has to have it's balance with the things we know will work in our situations as well.

Do I like the track? No. Do I see a crowd I usually play to going nuts over it? Yes. Why not play it then?

Sometimes being a DJ is not just about playing what you like but taking the crowd into consideration.


This was my argument all along, some of you might have misunderstood.

These "modern artists" in many cases have been making music for just as long. Glad you enjoyed most of it, thats what I really like right now.

As for "dumb brainless punters", they are thankfully not my audience, though I'm willing to bet a lot of them would like the music I play just the same.
