One time I was driving on the 427, it was late at night and dark outside. I was speeding, going 120km/h.
Suddenly, I noticed a darker area of the road about 300m ahead of me, I wasn't sure exactly why it was darker, but I knew the rest of the road was gray, so I should be careful and not simply continue to speed ahead.
When I realized it was a dark piece of sheet-metal that had possibly dropped off the back of a truck, I hit my breaks and didn't do any damage to my car. I didn't have to pay any deductible, and it was great dealing with my insurance company after that incident, because I didn't have to.
Moral of the story about road hazards? Pay attention! There's no excuse for driving straight into an obstruction on the road.

As others have pointed out, you're pretty much SOL. Many people assume that insurance is there to cover your @$$! Its not! It is there to spread the high costs of the few amongst the low costs of the many, and for all of us who will, luck willing, only get into minor accidents, the insurance company will suck tenfold the money from you over your driving carreer than it will ever have to pay out to you in case of these small accidents. The few times you will be lucky/glad you have insurance is if you end up in a major accident, where you may seriously cause harm or kill another person, in which case your insurance, after your measly deductible, will pay out the extraordinary lawsuit, medical, etc. bills.

and thats just for the third party that was hurt.....the money the insurance company would spend on your injuries, god forbid you get hurt, is very costly.
I have a claim right now where the insured was driving a 1993 Sunbird and totalled the car. The cost of the vehicle claim was $1000.00. To date, the insurance company has spent over $500,000.00 on her injury claim and I still have outstanding reserves on the claim of over $300,000.00. Then there is also the passenger that was severly hurt in the accident and will have a passenger hazard claim against her. I am not handling that claim but from the passengers injuries I would estimate a $250,000.00 settlement would be likely. That $100.00 a month the person was paying in insurance seems like nothing compared to the more then million dollars the insurance company will be paying. Oh and by the way, she was only insured with the company for 6 months.
