I think that people from the south of Europe in general don't get drunk (a lot) not at least like the north-europeans who seem to have this kind of "thinking" that goes like "i'm so suppressed through-out the week, so i'll go out on a friday/saturday night and drink till i pass-out". Well south Europe is poor and occupied by lazy corrupted bastards, but the life-style is quite cool and laidback, so that one doesn't have to go out during the one (probably saturday) night of the week, get drunk on 5-20 pints of shitty beer, piss on the street while shouting random vocalizations and then engage in random fights before passing-out on a dark and cold dingy road within a pool of vomit.
