lol, def not the techno donk ^^^

Ok, searching for examples has just made me realize how disorganized my music selection is, but I found a couple of examples.

The first is from Ronski Speed, this guy does some awesome stuff with FM. The stabs are great, and that sustained dynamic note before the stabs is awesome too (I tried it but it sounded like a cow, was funny but not what I was after). The next one is Havana Havana Genix remix. Its a very percussive track and the three consecutive stabs sound like FM. Basically they are solid and deep, metalic but not bell like.

Not sure if this is the same kind of thing that the others were thinking, but it atleast provides a starting point for discussion etc...

heres the link: FM stabs n donks.mp3 - 0.73MB

Thanks for the post.

When I have an opportunity this week, I am planning to duplicate the patch in LinPlug's Octopus to gain a better understanding of programming FM synths.

i can't even make a basic saw pluck, i got close mixing a sawtooth with a 6th formant and tweaking the ratio but didn't sound good.

Not sure if you already know this, but FM7/8 will import DX patches as sysex files. The original sysex dumps for most of the DX/TX series are avialable over the web (e.g., http://www.kvraudio.com/banks.php?s=list&what=108). It might be easier to study the patches after importing them into FM8 because you can see all the settings in front of you on just a few screens, whereas, trying to find and write down all the various settings from the DX100 will require you to dive into every menu/submenu for each patch - probably not an enjoyable task on a DX machine.
