Oh great, here we go again. This isn't expert testimony, it's basic medical information you can read in any book or ask your doctor about. It doesn't take an expert to - for example - read about the controlled double-blind studies done on echinacea that concluded it had no effect.
Edit: I should have added "peer-reviewed" to that list, because IMO any medical or scientific study that isn't peer-reviewed might as well be appearing with the testimonial evidence on some MLM website.

Yeah thanks, I have shelves full of medical texts.
The whole notion that herbal interventions are for the middle ages is itself an archaic thought. There's more research being done all the time to prove the benefits of natural medicine, and you'll find that younger, more innovative doctors are more likely to embrace and promote it.
As for why people get sick in the winter, there are a number of factors at hand, but the simple truth is
that the cold DOES have immune weakening effects. There are also several modes of transmission for viruses, so handwashing isn't always a guarantee. It's not going to protect you from airborne or droplet viruses. That's why people need to cover their bloody mouths when they cough or sneeze. And into the sleeve, not the hands. Ugh.

Yeah garlic has many proven health benefits. It's an antioxidant, lowers lipids, and acts as an antibacterial agent. It's used a lot for high cholesterol and hypertension.
Chicken soup is seriously an excellent thing to have when you're sick, because of all the garlic and salt.
And for the record, echinacea is a proven immune system stimulant, as well as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. Any moron could see how that would help when you're sick.
