Yeah ... lol ... what ever happened to that site ???
Anyhow ... in the end ... it was alot of factors that led to the reason it's the way it is now ... mainly a question of time and bandwidth ... I just got frustrated at not being able to share music ... I'm slowly getting back into things now though, and hope to have everything back up to date ... at the moment, I don't have any music servers lined up ... but as Renegade kindly pointed out, the forum is still running ... with alot of changes and improvements on the way !!!
I guess it's only a matter of time before bandwidth will become less of an issue ...but it's still a problem ...
As for those of you who used to kringe at the tags ... lol ... well as most of you know ... no security is perfect at protecting links ... and since I had such a large amount of files availlable, my site was the number one stop for link stealers (webmasters that put links directly to music on homeofmusic volenteer servers ... I never had any problem with people downloading and sharing the music ... or even if they put the files on their own websites ... but I did have a problem with other websites consuming my users bandwidth, as it is a unlimited resource. So I figured if there was no way to stop them 100%, then I would alter the tags as a deterant as it made things plainly obvious where the files came from !!! At the same time though, I always made sure the track info remained clear and precise ... I remember sometimes delaying the posting of great tunes simply because I wasn't sure of the names/titles involved, as I think we all owe it to the artists of music we listen to to at least make sure they get the proper credit when their songs are shared ... nothing made me more upset than to see songs wrongly titled !!! grrrr ... lol
As for bitrate ... it really was a matter of bandwidth ... for alot of the servers I used, were free accounts I had created at places such as geocites, xoom and other I can't even recall at the moment ... lol ... almost all of them had a 10 meg files size limit .. so I had to cut down ... but as mentioned above ... I've heard too many 192 files that sounded worse than 128 files ... and too many 128 files that sounded better than 192 files ... also ... my end philosophy was ... if you really needed an absolutely perfect copy of the song ... then you really should go out and buy it ... lol ... trance/house artists are almost 100% behind the moderate sharing of files, but they do need some sort of support ... and we should not abuse our priviledges of sharing tunes and completely ignore the fact that the club music market (unlike mainstream) does need some economical stimulus !!!
Anyhow ... I mainly logged on here to check out this forum, and give well deserved props to Tranceaddict for being a top notch community ... trully excellent work ... and I'm honoured to have homeofmusic mentioned in the same caliber as here and 008's site. Although don't think I haven't noticed the rather liberal usage of profanities here ... lol
Anyhow .. .keep up the great work !!!
