Every once in awhile a police station will host something with a local mechanic where they weld something over the catalytic converter so its impossible to remove it unless they took your truck to a shop and had the tools. Look into it and you can get this done for free usually. I see the news report about them every once in awhile. Call the cops maybe they can help you find a local mechanic that does it for free with the cops

i was so pissed, that i did go to the cops. the didn't seem to interested in it at all. he said that i would have to file it as motor theft or some shit. but he had this attitude as if he didn't want to deal with it.

"Toyota, Nissan...?" he asked me... "yup. those are the ones"

Then i walked back to my apartment even more pissed off. Paid the shit when it was all said and done. Now worried tonight, wondering if i should park closer.

my good friend recommended i get a shotgun... YEAAHHHH!!!

you should have asked them for when/where they do the free welding for catalytic converters... if not, check KCAL9 news every once in awhile they'll repeat the story... I'm thinking of getting it done myself since this shit seems to be on the rise now.

in case anyone cares the price of platinum right now is somewhere around $1100 an ounce and a catalytic converter has between 1 and 15 grams of platinum (the more environmentally friendly or the bigger the car the more the platinum).

there are 28 grams in an ounce, so on a really nice and big CC you can make around $500

At the beginning of 2008 is when people really started to steal them - the price was as high as $2000 per ounce
