Am I the only one who has really high hopes for this? This book was a staple of my childhood, and I love how they seem to be putting this flick together. Hats off to them for not CGI'ing the creatures, which I think is something that really adds to the feel of the movie.

just got back from watching this movie. i do remember reading the book as a kid, but i forgot a couple of tidbits here and there. my thoughts on the movie?

i am very disappointed with this movie. maybe it's because i did have high expectations coming into this movie, and thought spike jonze would do a very good adaptation, but i just wasn't feeling it. the movie started out great, and i could really feel max's expressions, but once he started to get concentrated into the "wild things" side, it just went downhill for me from there.

on the flip note, what i didn't know is Karen O was part of the soundtrack to the movie. she did the vocals for all the tracks played in the movie. Although I felt there was too much music playing during the movie, i thoroughly enjoyed the songs played.

so my final summary? the movie? 1 out of 2 thumbs up. the movie soundtrack? 1 1/2 out of 2 thumbs up.

to note, i love my local movie theater. while waiting for the movie to start, they were playing past spike jonze productions. they showed random Jackass episodes, and music videos by bjork, fatboy slim, and daft punk. win.

Well, the author (Maurice Sendak) had been wanting to make it into a movie for quite a while, just not a big hollywood production. Spike Jonze turned it down twice, but finally caved.

I found it right in between actually. Visually excellent, ok characters, but very dull, very little emotion imo. Pretty disappointed honestly. Saw it in a theater packed with families, and the kids weren't even really getting into it. It's just kind of there. Hope others get more out of it than I did.

Definitely a much "deeper" movie than I remember the book being, although I haven't read the book since I was a little kid, so that might explain it.

It seemed to be all about getting older and realizing that the way you act as a kid along with your expectations of those around you can't last forever. I guess it's a coming of age story for a child's inner psyche. All in all it was good, not great. I'm glad I saw it (and I'm glad I wasn't a kid while doing so) but I wasn't blown away.

For real? I just got back from it, and I thought it was overflowing with emotion. All the monsters represented different emotional feelings that Max was experiencing in his life. As the movie progressed, each emotion the characters were exhibiting were amplified, and ended up really clashing with each other. I thought it was so depressing and emotional that I was a little disappointed with how sad it became at the end. By the very end of the movie, I was wondering where all the happiness had gone. Sure, everything was okay by the end, but I was expecting a much more heartWARMING story, not a heartBREAKING one.
