Having a high turnover rate of employee's can be expensive. Not only are there the very tangible costs in loss of productivity while you're one person down, the cost / time spent training a new person, the effort that goes into the hiring process, there is also the intangible costs - what that employee knows that goes out the door, the tacit knowledge that you cant explicitly write down and do a transfer of to new staff.
Happy employee's tend to be more productive when they are happy, happy employee's tend to be more invested in their work, they take a higher sense of ownership in what they are doing.
When I am happy at my job, I put in far more effort than when I'm unhappy with my job. So, isn't it within an employers best interest (within reason obviously) to try and keep employees happy?
haha you misunderstood. I agree employee hapiness = employee retainmant.
What I am saying is that animals at work = unprofessional in my opinion. I guess it depends on the job, but in 99% of cases it is unprofessional

There is a software/hardware reseller in Liberty Village that promotes when the hire that it is a dog friendly work place. Dogs have to go for an interview before they are allowed to be brought into to workplace. The company is Softchoice and while I could care less and would probably not want to work in that environment I know many people who love it.
This company also has something called beercart Friday...they bring beer around on Friday afternoons for their employees.

I want to bring my dog to work so badly ! I should run it by my boss, see what he thinks. In a high stress work environment dogs would be perfect - at least you have something to relieve stress. My dog Mika is hypallergenic too so allergies would not be an issue, and she is tiny.

There are plenty of reasons that it increases productivity:
For example:
- less missed days
- working longer hours
- fix relationships in the office
- increase in creativity
Dogs are great and they just make things better in general. You have to remember that most of the time the dog is sleeping under your desk anyways. You take them out at lunch for a tiring run. Play with them on breaks but in general they are sleeping or lying down.

i think you have that in reverse. probably only 1% would be unprofessional. basically the only people that shouldn't bring dogs are surgeons.

I really don't mind as long as they keep their dog in their own office. I know of one woman who got a new dog and there is no one home on Thursdays to look after it so she brings it in. The dog stays quiet and is in no ones way. If you had a cubicle and there was a potential for the dog being in the way or bothering co workers...that may be an issue.

No dogs allowed.
It's annoying enough when people bring their kids in.

That's if you don't get distracted easily. I do...especially when it comes to dogs.

people working with food, drinks, heavy machinery (for the dogs sake) etc
but fully agree on the previous points, some dogs are well behaved, have no dander so not a problem for allergies so very few concerns, but as a person who cannot bring their dog to work i am often unable to stay late as i would have done to get more work done because i have to get home so the dog isn't alone for an unfair amount of time. i would potentially do up to 10 hours more a week in busy periods (on salary, so free for them) and even though he'd sleep by my feet and there are other dogs in the office building with other companies i got nixed. therefore i'll leave when i need to regardless of how busy it is - since they cannot incorporate my dog as part of my work life they have to accept my responsibilities to him as part of my personal life, their loss imo.
i'm not a kids person anyway but disagree with them being present as they are far more demanding than a dog.
