Mp3 for the most part, because I can never decide the best way to burn and organize CDs, and I like having my entire music collection present.

I use 320kbps mp3's (if available) combined with a timecode CDJ system (I don't like burning CD's). I don't see why anyone would download wav's, I don't think there are a lot of people out there who notice the difference between 320kbps mp3's and wav's.

I do have a load of vinyls from 1998-2005 which I still play every now and then. But I don't buy new records anymore, I don't understand why trance labels even bother releasing stuff on vinyl nowadays.

You pick up this working girl who's hooked on smack, who hussles and scores. "That's all I do" she says, she says "Ten bucks for head, fifteen for half-and-half". She says "Three hits a day at 35 per", you say "That's seven tricks a day at least", but she says "Sometimes I get lucky. Once this guy gives me a bill-and-half just to eat me, only time I ever came".
You figure you can save her. You sell your color tv, that keeps her off the streets a whole day. You hawk your typewriter for one jolt. Then your shotgun, your watch. A week later you say "Listen I'm a little short", but she says "No scratch, no snatch". You say "Look it is better to give", but she says "Beat off creep".
One night they spot you on the street in your skibbies trying to sell your shoes. You tell them who you are, but they nail you. Then she happens by and she says "Christ you look fucked", she says "Hang tough!". But you don't say anything, you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me".

I only buy vinyl from vinyl-only labels and for out-of-press material.

Same. Let's get married <3

I buy vinyl when I think the track is just too good not to own on vinyl. I don't know why.

CDs, 7 tracks to a CD - 2 copies in the same sleeve: in case I want to play 2 tracks that are on the same CD, and as back-up in case one gets scratched/dropped/stepped on/burned incorrectly.

I don't buy wavs for reasons others have listed...always 320s. I only buy vinyl if its a track I am really in love with and I know will still be great years from now, and usually only for collection purposes.

ps i wanted to say that if you use ableton you may as well use wav files because it only runs on wavs anyways. even if you use mp3s they get converted and it ends up taking up even more disk space

i also have some vinyls (very limited - probably around 80) but these always stay at home. no sense in lugging them around as I have most of them on .mp3 as it is and the ones that i don't i wouldn't play out - crowds i usually play for wouldn't understand them/connect to it like i do.

Not only this but the program responds and runs more smoothly using wavs for some strange reason.

If I had more money I'd go back to getting records... there were a few years where I was vinyl-only. I only got a handful of tracks a month at most, but I still listen to them all pretty regularly.

Right now it's almost all mp3s, and I forget a bunch of the ones I buy after a few weeks. :/ Probably not the mp3s fault though...

Some strange reason?

It doesn't have to do the decoding on the Mp3; thats why it is more smooth, less overhead.
