JRPGs suck (excluding those made in the late 80s/early 90s).

Have 7 on mine. Works perfectly; looks lovely. I'm looking forward to giving 13 a blast.

8 was definitely underrated. That draw system definitely took some getting used to though.

I loved how they integrated the FMV through the scenes. The best one was when you land off an airship and run through a battle with a million guys around you fighting. Great stuff.

Here's the scene I'm talking about. The guy ripped the video straight from the disc so there's no music or Squall and Rinoa polygon characters, but towards the end when the camera gets down to ground level, you actually had control of Squall in the original which was pretty damn cool.

This rip doesn't do it justice but it's all I could find.

Final Fantasy 9 did that stuff even better. It pretty much reached the pinnacle of the PS1's capabilities both in terms of cut scenes and in-game graphical effects. Some of the summons were more impressive than FF10 IMO. And I personally hated the draw system of part 8..It removed all distinction between characters since everyone could do the same thing as everyone else. FF9 went back to the tradition of special abilities for each character. I don't know it doesn't get talked about much..I thought it was much better than part 8..and just as good as 7.

It also got better reviews than 8 pretty much everywhere..

No way, dude... though I will agree with you that the 80's/90's RPGs are the best. But the same could be said for videogaming in general, it peaked in the 90's and it's all been downhill since the death of the Dreamcast.

I get what you're saying, but I'm talking about the ability to control your character WITHIN the FMV, albeit in a limited fashion. The vid I posted, like I said, was a direct rip from the video file on the cd but you actually have control of your character for part of it too. Pretty cool.

ya..there were a couple scenes like that in FF9. The only one I remember is being in the middle of a huge crowded street during a parade or something.. The camera is zooming over the heads of all the people and suddenly there your character is, running through the masses and you have control of them. Pretty neat although it was just a novelty. The camera would have kept moving even if you didn't touch the controller since the scene was prerendered

Even if its a FF7 remake, sinece its a SquareEnix game and they also make games now for the X360, it woudnt be far fetched to think that it would also come out for the xbox. After all some SNES rpgs did get rereleases on the PSX, so it could happen here as well though doubful due to the cost. Also while FF7 was awesome and I enjoyed it a lot, i dont think i would buy the remake if i still have the original at home.

I really don't want to see a remake. It would lose the old school magic of the original. It would be nice if they added a little to the story, created some new characters, plot twists, and areas to explore and added them on to the original FF7 with the same graphics then released on the Playstation Network as "FF7 Remix" or something like that. I'd buy it in a heartbeat..but I don't want a completely 3D realtime RPG with the FF7 name. It just wouldn't be the same. Nothing can match the top down view of wandering through those beautiful pre-rendered environments in the same manner as the old school SNES RPGs. If everything was at eye level or over the shoulder of your character, it would lose a huge part of the charm.

I agree, part of the charm of the older games are actually the limitations you have, it's not always in the best interest of game-quality to do compelte 3d remakes.

That being said, I want a fully-3D "Link to the Past" remake.... NOW!
