I can't make 500hz 0db

501-522 -6 db

522-1735 -12 db

etc etc...

Ive gotten close to having an absolute line. Say for instance I cut 500hz and below ..the sharper or faster down I go..the more 500-540hz are boosted. So in the end 499 may be dead silent, but 500-540hz would be like +32 db o.o..then the spike evens out at 0db around 560hz and on...

I don't know if this has been answered for you yet, but UAD Cambridge EQ has the steepest slope I've ever seen. It's practically a virticle line. You can get it for about $300 if you get the card used on eBay for $100.

This is the natural response of how filters work, the steeper the slope, the higher the resonance is at the peak. You could get close to what you're trying to achieve by using numerous eq's, but the noise floor it would create would be near un-mixable

Yeah the Eliptic 6 curve is pretty damn steep

How come UAD can get a curve like that and other Eq's can't.

It is a very handy thing to have..

The closest thing i've used that comes close is WaveArts Trackplug5, it has a 'brickwall' filter. As stated above though, these very steep curves are often deemed not very 'musical', because of the resonance that they produce

The reason for the steep slopes was to expriment with sounds that has many little section of hz removed. Imagine a sound going though a fan or a comb. But not uniform chops. The idea is that you could come up with completely new timbres and such if you had that much control without the resonance.

I only use sonalksis, very nice and gentle sound. Different EQs I've tried over the years sound very different and I think sonalksis Stereo EQ does the job fine.

If you take an eq with for example 24db/oct, and make a cut at 150 - take like 4 of these eqs and stack them on top of each other - that would result in a 96db/oct slope, right?
