I will admit that in this instance i was poking fun at you because your little latency tirade was hilarious. But ram actually does have latency and it is important.

Coming from the guy who said latency effects audio in absolutely no way, but doesn't use 32 sample rate. Why do you use 256 samples RichieV? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the quality? *gasp*

I'm not poking fun at you, you are a genuine idiot. Because now you are claiming latency does help if you run out of ram???

So with this RAM latency, do you set it high or low? I'm assuming somewhere in the middle? Considering high latency is bad according to you for no apparent reason, and latency doesn't effect the audio quality so it doesn't need to be low....so...I guess latency truly doesn't matter yeah? I'm using your own words here. Explain to *me* what *you* mean when *you* say latency has no effect on the audio quality. And why it needs to be at a middle level instead of high or low.

I suppose i could. I guess 256 is lucky. Strange how your latency is so much higher yet for some reason , i am not ever clipping my music.

It is so very strange how you are quite possibly the only person in NA that uses a latency of 2048. I'm sure a sesonned producer like you knows. i mean you've been producing what ? 2,3 4 years now?

Whoever said Mac is more stabile then a PC still lives in the 90s or doesnt know how to properly set up a PC

Anyway, just got a AMD Phenom™ II X3 720 Black Edition together with a new board and 4Gb RAM as my recent productions are killing my 4600+ so I can't wait for it to arrive this week.

HOw many hours of knowledge would you say it requires to know xp , all the registry business and everything you need to know to maintain a pc. Maybe use years if that makes it easier.

What is your hour worth ? Starts to make a mac real attractive.

Lots of reasons for a pc, but your point is really the main reason in not getting one. UNless you've already spent that time and lost that money on learning how to maintain a system that doesn't do it itself.

Don't worry, I wasnt having a go towards Mac users in any way.

Insane. Today I upgraded from a AMD 4600+ with 3Gb RAM to a AMD Phenom II X3 with 4Gb RAM and I'm having 19% CPU usage on the peak of my single "Controversy" with over 30 FX channels and mastering in realtime, all this in 10ms on my soundcard ASIO just had to share it because im in shock didnt think it'd do such difference

You better lower the latency to 1ms, or RichieV will bash you and spam your PM folder telling you how lame you are.

what sample rate ? That is always the worst part in getting a pc. That initial test. But sometimes , the surprise is worth it. Impressive specs. The latency is fantastic! What sound card ? Also curious if you needed to change board ? i have an older amd system somewhere.

didn't think you were. I was a pc guy. still am. I have both. The one thing i hate about mac is that fucking magical os that is so mysterious. Of course pc has just about as much crap too . I also hate the fucking cd thing.

I just hate how mac , even the pro 8 core is packaged and sold like a toy. I remember buying it and the girl was telling me about widgets. She then start to ask what i would use it for . Um hmmm the internet and email. And then she talked about her boyfriend who produces and i was about to just walk out. I actually told her that she had the sale if she just left me alonr. I suppose it was rude but i just don't like faking conversation about someting i don't care about. I don't care about widgets and i own a Zen mp3 player. I go to a store because i have decided on a purchase.

Yeah, I had to change the board, aswell as the memory since the AM3 chipset requires DDR3 to run. I'm very glad this motherboard had integrated Firewire so I could get rid of one more of those old PCI cards. My soundcard is a CME Matrik K (Firewire) and it's in 44.1khz using the FL Studio 8.5 Beta (which is awesome, eventhough it crashes occationally lol)

I'm sorry guys. I haven't received any replies after a couple of days and forgot to check if anybody posted a comment. Anyway I have had the computer for a couple of weeks now and it's a very stable machine. I think that in terms of performance, I have more than enough for what I intend to do.

Anyway, the only mistake I have made as far as I can tell was with the case. This thing has a perforated front panel and 5 friggin fans. It was quite a stupid mistake but one I could fix I suppose.

On to what I intend to do. For now I plan to get an Digidesign M-Box (haven't decided which one, most likely Pro). Why am I going to use ProTools you asking? The simple answer I have for you is that you must not know very much about the program. Yes it is complex but it doesn't have to be. The beauty of it is the amount of possibilities that it extends to the user. The program would allow me to integrate other applications, such as Reason and Live, should I want to. It really is the ultimate production center, and I can choose to use just a small percentage of it or go all out. It will be totally up to me. And we're honestly not even talking that much money here. The M-Box would cost me $900 tops and it comes with ProTools 8. Add a $200 midi controller and I'm good to go.

Anyway I intend to produce electronic dance music, just like anybody who visits this board does. You have to start somewhere, right? Yea I could start out simple but I'd want to upgrade eventually so why not just go with the superior option now that I can?

Anyway I plan to learn as I go along, trust me. I don't know a whole lot but I plan to change that.

Thanks to everyone who responded. As for the computer's specs, that video card really wasn't expensive so I wouldn't say it's overkill at all. The hard drive gives me a noticeable performance boost when performing simple tasks so I'd imagine it will give me an advantage when recording in real time and such. As for the OS, I know that I am only limited to 3gb now but hell, do I really need more now? I plan to upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out and there's good driver support. For now this will do. I don't know if I mentioned it or not but I didn't buy Win XP64 because Protools simply doesn't run on it.
