Personally, I would love to travel to Ireland or Japan and get a taste of the culture on as many levels as possible. Visit their most exotic restaurants, go to their clubs and party, check out their popular landmarks or tourist destinations. I simply wish I knew someone in these places to show me around so I don't look like a clueless American. |
When I've travelled, that's one of the things I seem to notice. Americans often like to be shown around or stick to the beaten track, while other nationalities just tend to go out and look. You shouldn't be afraid of exploring a foreign country, no more than just going for a walk anywhere in America and seeing what's around the corner. Discovering things for yourself is part of the joy of travel.

Not sure if it's like Fiji, I've never been there Sounds pretty crazy over there though, with all the psycho government shit happening. Banning the internet or something, I was reading the other day. |
Don't believe it. I feel a real affinity with Fiji. I've been there around 15+ times and sort of consider it my adopted country. We have some friends there and correspond with them fairly regularly. I read Sitiveni Rabuka's book some years ago and I've been in the country during the times of unrest. They have a very respectful attitude for tourists and rarely does anything bad happen to foreigners. The problems usually only occur in the capital of Suva, and the airport is in Nadi, which is on the other side of the main island.
